Has anyone tried or had success in installing any of the newer Pioneer wireless carplay headunits in a 1st Gen?

    Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX
    Pioneer AVIC-W6400NEX
    Pioneer AVIC-W8400NEX

Crutchfield says they don't fit because of the depth (7.1 in.) - Amazon says it does fit. I installed a Pioneer double din a few years back with depth of 6.9 in. and I swear there was still space behind the HU.

    Any experience would be appreciated.

Sorry, I should have explained more. I have 2000 Tacoma. This is what Crutchfield says:

Honestly I thought all 1st gens factory pockets were the same. Do you have a factory pocket under a single din radio?

This may be the difference, as my factory radio was double din.

I entered your vehicle info into Crutchfield and you are correct stating it won't fit.
I trust Crutchfield over Amazon. But I never shop Amazon. I seem to always find better deals else where.

Any single DIN or double DIN radio will fit in our trucks. It’s a known standard.

I have a double DIN touchscreen Kenwood DDX373BT.

I have a button-less Double Din Pioneer CarPlay unit in my 2003 Double Cab. The fit and finish looks like stock. Easy peasy install with the supplied wiring harness Crutchfield included.

Amazon is the LAST website I would trust for what fits and doesn't fit a vehicle. They sell books and pokemon cards. Crutchfield generally knows their shit, but it's odd they say it doesn't fit.

But as Tyler said, any single or double DIN should fit. It's a standard size.

So was mine, but the cutout is the same. I installed a single DIN with a pocket (from crutchfield) many years ago in my 2004.
