They should pare it down to the rental companies only. Good for the local economy still but all the bros tearing shit up will be gone.

I could see “access” ultimately restored with some bullshit reservation system administered by some asshole private company like Ticketmaster that will charge more for fees than the county gets for use permits. That’s what happened to El Capitan lake in San Diego.

Pay taxes because you have to, and then pay for everything damn thing you want from the government on top haha. That’s surely the way the cookie crumbles

I wouldn't be surprised. It'll certainly hurt the local economy with all that tourism abruptly stopping. But from what I remember reading there were also a lot of residents that were upset by the crowds too, so IDK. They might do something like that where it limits who goes in and keeps money flowing.

At the end of the day, it's an OHV park...the real beauty of CA wheeling and most of the states out west is the public land we have to explore. Pismo was never that, just a state run park so it was always subject to strict rules and regs like most OHV parks are. It is the only one on the beach though so I can see why so many are upset by it.

But no matter how crappy it got it's still sad to see an OHV park close. Just adds fuel to the fire when they want to aim their sites on the next one. But it's also up to us to not give the hobby a bad name and give them a reason to claim that it's causing more harm than good. With how popular and accessible 'overlanding' has gotten out here in the last 10 years, its harder and harder to get that across to everyone, unfortunately.

I love Pismo, been going there for the last 20 years. But I have to admit it has really gone down hill the last few years. A lot of people have no respect for anyone or anything and ruin it for everyone. The experience of camping on the beach, riding the dunes was amazing. I believe Pismo is the only beach in California where you can do that, I will miss it if/when it closes.

Aren't there beaches north of Bay area where you can drive still within CA? Ya it's ways out there but still an option.

AFAIK Pismo is/was the only legal beach you can drive on in California. I think there are some in Oregon but I've never been there.

Yeah there are no other beaches in CA that you can drive on, Pismo was it. I know Oregon has dunes for wheeling but I don't think they're on the beach. I might be wrong though, never wheeled up there.

Sand dunes will have to be found out in the desert now

Good, I can get my beach dune fix when I go visit my brother and dad up in Oregon lol.

Not a huge fan of sand wheeling anyhow, getting stuck in deep soft sand sucks the root
