    WTH?

I only trying to tow a FIAT 500 that weighs 2500lbs.

I've posted a photo of both vechiles.

Any suggetions on where I can rent an auto transport trailer.

How far you towing? Is it one-way or round trip with the dolly? Might be better off renting the U-Haul truck and dolly and tow it like that.

Just to San Antonio and back but was trying to keep the budget down as Im taking the FIAT to a car event at the Twisted Sisters Road Course.

But I already have Hotel and Food and Gas etc...to pay for so I thought "surely" I can save some wear on the FIAT by towing it there...

    Uhauls are franchises. Try another.

But there may be a corporate restriction for liability reasons. Just because someone tells them they are going to tow x doesn't mean they don't go home and load up y.

However there should be an acknowledgement waiver you can sign not holding them responsible for you overloading your truck.

Or you could just borrow a friend's full-size, rent the carrier, hook it to your truck and go your merry way.

The towing restrictions are set by U-Haul Corporate, its the same for all locations. Also, when you go to rent a dolly from them they have to inspect the vehicle your using to tow with.

Is the car front wheel drive or rear wheel drive? You might be able to use a dolly if it’s FWD. I don’t know much about them. A transporter trailer is heavy and the combined weight could be 4000 lbs or more.

Know anyone with a bigger truck/suv you could borrow to go pick it up? Then just hook it up to your truck. Not saying you should do it but it is a way to get around their system. You’d be accepting all liability if anything were to go wrong.

I’d probably just drive the car if I was you.

Do what Clearwater Bill said, try other U-haul dealers.
I've three dealers within 5 miles of me, one will rent me a car dolly the other two will not.
The software they use will not except any compact truck as compatible for use with the car dolly. The Dealer that will rent it to me knows this and he plugs in a vehicle in to the software that he knows will be accepted.
Is it right to do it that way, no, but it gets me the rental.

Albeit U-Hauls are franchises (some aren’t btw) they have to put in the make and model of the towing vehicle and the vehicle you’re towing. That is what defines what you can tow or not... it’s not some random judgement call. You could’ve gone to uhaul.com and put this information in and it would’ve told you the same answer. I worked at a uhaul for a few months in college.

A guy I knew told them he was picking the trailer for his dad and a Super Duty was going to be hauling the car. Then he just used his Taco.

I tried to rent the trailer for a Subaru Forster. They wouldn't allow me to tow it although the truck can, so I looked up vehicle closest in weight to the forester, called a different uhaul locations and told them I was going to tow that vehicle.. terrible of me I know.. :anonymous:
