I think we can get similar bags, but in black. With or without the window in the rear (like these have), but I'll have to go back to my notes. It'll be for something in the 1-1.5 lb range. The other packaging will be a shaker bottle for a size just under 1 lb (~13 oz?). We still have to get the details on the density. I can always pack in bricks for old time's sake ;).

Very exciting! I've actually resisted opening them up. My partner is coming over on Sunday for testing. Ribs and pork chops are probably our most familiar dishes, so we'll cook those alongside tasting the rub by itself.

I wish my business meetings consisted of drinking beer, hanging out with friends, and eating great food in my backyard!

If I could get to a point where I get to trade all of my "day job" meetings for those type, I'll be all set.

Just as an update. Meat Massage is getting serious consideration for our rub name.

    Pitfaced BBQ Meat Massage (regular)
    Pitfaced BBQ Heat Massage (spicy)

    Thoughts from the peanut gallery?!?

Love it except maybe add the word meat to the second one, like Heat Meat Massage, so both products are clearly for meat. Seems obvious but marketing always has to go beyond obvious.

There is a product out there call Bernie Mountain's Meat Massage. Not sure how that will play into this.

Ya I would say that also but I am thinking back to the original issue they had with Rub-a-Dub.

Yeah I was being very "in theory" with that comment because unless there's an actual trademark, it "technically" is up for grabs. But, anyone can always threaten or lawyer up for anything, just a matter of who wants to go the distance.

Ya that was honestly my thoughts on it. In the end the only ones that win are the lawyers.

It plays well with "Give your butt the rub it deserves!" as well.

If we go with that, we're gonna owe you a little something ;).

Kind of like "Pitfaced". I've explained that away to certain organizations that I've cooked for who wouldn't think too kindly of the name's similarity to a word for getting blindingly drunk

That's an excellent point. "Heat Massage" works well alongside "Meat Massage", but the connection between the two may not always be clear. If we ditch "Heat Massage" as a standalone name, I think I'd do "Meat Massage" and "Spicy Meat Massage". Same product, one with additional spice. "Heat Meat Massage" can be a mouthful to say.

That is why I run everything by you guys first .

Could you provide me a link to their product? I'd like to take a closer look at what they're doing. I didn't immediately notice anything at first glance. I appreciate the heads up!

Mostly, yeah. I'm happy to play nice as I can understand the value of a brand, especially for the small guys, but it'll have to be within reason, too. I'm willing to take a look at their use and see if it is "fair" for me to use it, too. I have a feeling there will be no real conflict for either of us.

I've basically told that guy that he needs to put up or shut up regarding the name Rub-a-Dub. I still don't have hard evidence from him that it is trademarked (I'd bet $100 it isn't). It is kind of more on principle, though.

A potential headache regarding the name is a factor, but most of the consideration for moving on from the name stems from the number of other rubs that use it. If someone tells a friend to get some "Rub-a-Dub" and there are 5 other options, we might have lost some value word of mouth marketing. I think our product is great and I don't want to sit among the "others".

Search "Pitfaced" and, aside from a couple of Urban Dictionary entries, we dominate the first page. That's pretty awesome. That'll be hard to do with Rub-a-Dub. That said, I do still like the name and it has a little sentimental value, of course.

Unfortunately, this is kind of how it is with intellectual property in this country. There is a balance between making protections accessible to the little guys and disincentivizing so called "patent/trademark trolls", but I don't think we've quite struck it, yet.

Just sent you an IM with the link to it in there. I'm sure you could get away with using it I don't see anything TM wise on there. Just need to see if if it's purely local or if there are others out there. You can do a TM search but it's usually a PITA to find what you need.

    Got it!

I don't see anything on the trademark database. I have tried a few different searches and don't see much. They look like they're pretty confined to a local market. I don't think we'd be trampling over each other, so I don't think that our presence with the name hurts their business at all. Still, something for us to chew on.
