Put down a deposit on a DCOR 6 speed today.I was worried about the manual after hearing a lot about a “clunky” shifting experience but after test driving a 21 model on the lot I was sold. I couldn’t believe how smooth and easy/fun to drive!

    2023?

I was wondering if people would still be looking to buy a new Tacoma in 2023, other than people that would want to replace a total loss on their current 3rd gen and want another Tacoma.

I was only wondering because of current market conditions. Not that Tacomas aren't still good trucks, or that the 4th gen is rumored to be on its way.

I would think that Toyota would be done building 2022s, but that is only a guess. No real difference for 2023s.

When will your truck be built?

I just know most dealerships around me have nothing new in stock so to get a new truck you put a deposit on what your looking for. The dealership said they get two allocations of vehicles a month and if your truck is one to arrive it’s yours if you’ve put down a deposit. If I understood correctly they don’t know exactly what they will be getting with each delivery.

Came in to see how to pace a taco order, but wanted to say the manual transmission if fine, I had no issues with my 17.

    I purchased a 2022 TRD Sport 3.5 V6 w/Manual 6 Speed in a double cab.
Someone ordered it with options, and it took 7 months to build the truck.
He purchased another vehicle before it arrived at the dealer. (Florida)
The 6 speed is definitely the way to go.

The dealer had 21 OR with 5,000 miles on it that i test drove that I could have bought if I didn’t want to wait but it was around $5,000 more than MSRP on a new order. And the dealer wouldn’t Budge on the price.

That’s because they are holding used trucks hostage waiting on desperate people to show up. Greedy bastards.

I put a deposit on a 2022 SR5 Access Cab on the 10th. They tell me it has been built and is sitting in Mexico, waiting to get on a boat. They also tell me that sometimes the details they have on it might not be what shows up. I don't know when it's supposed to be here...it's a good thing these things sell themselves because the salesperson didn't spend much time explaining anything to me, he seemed to enjoy leaning back in his chair with his feet on his desk.

The dealer I ordered from has a 2022 SR 4x4 access cab on the lot that I’m tempted to buy instead of waiting on the OR. I like the 6 ft bed access cab combo but I also wanted a manual transmission. Decisions, Decisions. Also, it’s $5000 less MSRP.

The dealer knows EXACTLY what truck they are getting way beforehand .

When a truck is allocated to them, it shows price, future build date, color, model, trim level, and any port installed options that will be added. These vehicles are tracked internally using a temporary vin which is replaced by its actual vin the day its manufactured.

Shortly after production its loaded onto a rail car and marked ‘in transit’. Thats where the eta’s get foggy as updated locations cant be tracked daily like a FedEx package.

Next it will arrive at whichever port handles that region where its inspected and final accessories included in the original build are added. From there its loaded onto a carrier and makes the final trip to the dealership.

Dealers know what they have coming , the ‘when’ is pure speculation. If a dealer says they don’t know when a particular truck someone wants will arrive , it’s because they don’t have one officially on allocation . So they are waiting and hoping they will get something close when the next allocations get announced.

Thats why its best to visit several dealers. Allocations are awarded to different dealers mostly based on their sales volume.

So one dealer could have better options of getting one you want , vs a smaller dealer the next town over.

Ask the salesman for your vin # . You will be able to look up your truck on the Toyota site and find out EXACTLY what options it has, or will have, if anything is getting port installed.

He has access to this info obviously so there should be no mysteries. If your truck has been built, it no longer has an internal “placeholder vin”, it has a normal one will all vehicle info.

As far as it sitting waiting for transit , anything is possible I guess .
