One of the best things the dealership can do is sell you a vehicle you're not dead set on getting, because it means you're likely to return later on down the road. Don't worry about how long you have to wait. If it's what you want, it'll be worth it.

I can't personally speak for the MT, but I have seen quite a few posts about MT drivers purchasing the AT 3rd gen and wishing they hadn't.

Regarding your concerns on clunky shifts, @tonered and @Shellshock could speak more on that than I can.

the right truck to buy is the one with the manual. learn from my mistake. I bought an auto.. and a year later traded it for a manual.

The MT takes a couple easy mods to feel right, but it has been a joy to own no matter what. Both for the fun, the capability, and that I can't leave it alone.

Search out the vF Tune, ADM, and 2LM for the big hitters.

Thanks, JJD. I have the VIN. It tells me it is what I thought it was and what I was looking for: a basic 4x4 SR5, Access cab, automatic (kind of unfortunate, but I'm no longer the purist I once fancied myself), tow package, Magnetic-Gray Metallic. It has mudguards, why am I paying extra for mudguards, I haven't owned a truck in some years, but don't they all come with mudguards? Are these special mudguards? I think it is just what the doctor ordered for this odd sort of a midlife crisis I am having.

Does anyone know how long it will hang out in Mexico before someone sends someone to pick it up and bring it to Montana? Again, the salesperson was not the most helpful person I have ever seen who tries to sell things for a living.

So if you order a truck, you'll be paying MSRP? Do they still add on a market adjustment fee?

I checked with different dealers around me and most added a $2,500 “market adjustment “, but a few just went with MSRP. I did notice the couple dealers who just went with MSRP did add about a $500 doc fee and had non refundable deposit.

I also have the manual 6, best way to go.
Its now only available on the TRD line-up (PRO-Off Road-Sport models)

I think that if you live in a high traffic area like I do, the manual transmission makes absolutely no sense.

I’ve owned two modern manual transmission Toyotas, an FJ cruiser and a second generation four-cylinder Tacoma.

I think the third generation manual transmission is pretty much the same feel as the FJ cruiser. Not bad, not great.

If you like driving a manual, by all means get one.

If you sit in traffic all day long, I would not get one.

Unfortunately the TRD line-up has been the only way to get a MT since the 2017 Model Year ended.

    Yeah.
Mudguards are an option, my TRD Pro came without them. The 3rd gen OEM ones are better than the 2nd gen were, and reasonably priced, so I just added them myself.

As far as how long it will sit there, probably not too long, but who knows. It doesn't look like Montana is served by a big distributor, so maybe it will skip that stop? In the south, we have to deal with them going through either Gulf States or Southeast Toyota distributors for them to add the silly "Vehicle Protection Package" or other stupid little overpriced options before it gets sent to a dealer.

I put $1,000 down. When they say it is not refundable, it is refundable. If you were to change your mind and tell them you aren't buying the vehicle, because it isn't a contract, they are providing you no valuable legal consideration, they should give you your money back and just put a note in your file to never sell you a vehicle again. At least that's what the guy told me here in Bozeman, but maybe it's because he knows I'm a lawyer and knows $1,000 isn't worth his company's time to fight over, especially given the consumer protection laws in Montana and the availability of 3x damages and attorney's fees to a prevailing consumer.

In my case, it was marked in transit 48 hours after it was built.
As far as I know it got offloaded at the appropriate rail port in the US , where it was inspected and also where any port installed accessories would get added.(There was nothing port added on my truck.) Then 48 days later it was at my dealer in Ct.

Also, no … Mudflaps are optional.

I saved a ton of $$ and got Trd Pro wheels, mud flaps, bed mat, bed lighting, all weather mats and a few other things online from a Toyota dealer when they had a sitewide 20% off sale. Also free shipping and no sales tax. The markup on accessories is quite high. Bed light kit thru the dealer was $279 with labor. I paid $36 for the same OE kit which took 10 min to install.Bed mat $139 at dealer, online $82. So shop around various Toyota dealers online, there are definitely better options.

That’s how they make a ton of profit. When they don’t have everyone by the balls, they can get it. Not from me though.
