Hey guys. This is totally off topic of Tacomas, but I'm moving to LA in September to start my new job. My girlfriend and I have been searching for a place to live, but have mostly gotten CL scams fishing for our SS numbers and things that are way overpriced.

I thought I might look here to see if anybody had any leads on places. Our main concern is safety. My girlfriend is an EMT and works weird hours. I don't want her coming home in the middle of the night in a sketchy neighborhood.

My work is in DT LA, but my client where I spend most of my time is in Beverly Hills on Wilshire. I am fine with up to a 40 min commute (I know Beverly Hills sucks to commute in and out).

We have looked in Brentwood mostly, a little in Santa Monica, and even some in Beverly Hills. Just seeing if anybody had any ideas that we haven't looked into.

Our budget is right around 2 grand for a one bedroom.

Too far. My office is downtown but I will spend most time in Beverly Hills on Wilshire at my client.

Yeah if you look for places in downtown it'll be even more crazy expensive than it is in LA in general. Most of the neighborhoods surrounding downtown LA are sketchy too, so I'd avoid those.

Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena, Tujunga (where I live) are all nice areas with relatively reasonably priced neighborhoods. Santa Clarita as well though it's on the edge of the LA County line (45 min from downtown). It's much more suburban there, that's where I grew up.

When? The 50s? Newport 2 bedroom that isn't falling apart would average at least 3k now :(

If you venture a little further east of Pasadena the commute becomes longer but the cost of living and safety gets better. It's kind of a trade-off like that. I enjoy living a little further from the heart of LA if it means I get to live in a quieter, safer region. Sierra Madre, Monrovia, Arcadia, San Gabriel are all nicer areas east of LA.

We actually have been looking at Burbank and South Pasadena for the last couple days. I really like those areas. Much more reasonably priced than places like Brentwood. We like brentwood a lot though because there are a lot of young professionals in the area. We are both 22 haha.

Oh dude yeah, anywhere is going to be cheaper than Brentwood haha. But if Brentwood is within the realm of consideration, I'd definitely look into the nicer areas of Pasadena/South Pasadena. Very nice homes and neighborhoods there, and it's really close to LA.

Yeah :( Unfortunately times are expensive. I've tried to consider the move to AZ though.

Yeah. I've been telling my girlfriend that we probably won't have the nicest place right away! Seriously main concern is safety. Luckily we have til september to keep looking.

I actually grew up in Austin for several years as a kid before moving to LA as a teenager, I loved Austin (Round Rock actually).
