I'm planning a trip to Redwood Forest in northern Cali in May. We will be driving down Oregon coast. I've never done this drive and need some advice on where to stop.

The plan is to stay 1-2 nights in Oregon before making it to Cali.

    Thanks

I've done it many times, it can be a beautiful drive if the weather cooperates. Depends on what you're looking for. Family friendly? Running trails? Shopping? Eating? Camping spots (state parks, blm)? Hotels? Touristy things?

Definitely family friendly. I'm driving down with my wife, daughter and our German shepherd puppy.

Lots of stuff to do. I tend to focus on family stuff as well. Depending on your daughter's age...Seaside has an indoor amusement park, Tillamook Cheese used to have a visitor center that had tours and ice cream (it closed for remodeling don't know if they reopened), Cannon Beach has shops to look around including good eats for grownups and souvenirs for kids. Newport has a nice aquarium where Free Willy was filmed. Newport also has an beach off road rec area, although I haven't been to either, I have the impression that it's Oregon's version of Pismo Beach CA you can rent various offroad toys. Sea Lion Caves are a novelty that's a place to stretch the legs (and pay money) may not be for everybody. We like to stop at some of the fresh seafood stands and pickup crab/fish to grill over a campfire.

Tillamook was open this summer. Fun break from driving. Seaside has a corny tourist trap vibe but kids enjoy it. Cannon Beach is worth a stop. We camped down the coast and really enjoyed the Barview Jetty site the most. Thor's Well/Sprouting horn is worth a stop and also the sand dunes in Florence

Beach access in Gearhart and runs to Astoria or vice versa. Great scenic drive down the beach. 05015679-AB52-48EF-9C9D-F97B201AC97E.jpg

Gold beach jet boat rides- do the long ride. They used to run three big blocks jets for the long trips. Fun for the whole family.
