Plasti derp the rear bumper?

My next project as well, ready to do it this weekend but too much rain.

 

Mine was done over 1.5 years ago, and still looks good.

 

Does it work on chrome?

As long that you clean it you will be fine. I used the predip spray from DYC(dipyourcar.com). Others(before I got Pre dip spray) have used 50/50 rubbing alcohol to water.

OP. What did you use to spray your bumper? Just the spray can or did you use a trigger sprayer?

I used the can it came with, had enough practice with it now i got a nice perfect even coat and i couldn't be happier with it

 

You can get a trigger sprayer for those bigger jobs. I am glad that I had one when I did my bumper, grill etc. If you're going to do bigger jobs I would suggest that you'd get one.

 

I dipped mine last year but it didn't hold up well to NY winters. I don't think I put it on thick enough. This year I pulled the bumper off and sprayed it with bedliner.

 

I have an area by my license plate on the back bumper that I had missed when I was dipping. It's now lifted and I have to repair it asap. I am going to try and do that today if I can. I'd be very surprised if the plasti dip that I had laid down on my truck is going to last on winter. If not, I can do another color in the spring time.

 

Did you remove the plastic trim on the bumper or just mask it off?

 

Who are you directing that to?

 

I dipped it too, this way it has the same color/finish. I didn't want the plastic part to stand out and it turned out mint

 

I taped the plastic trim but I had removed the license plate lights and did those black as well(left the lights attached and taped the ends of them). I had some issues because of the curving, downward on the light covers. It will turned out good though.

I agree. I think that you'd be able to tell the difference in the blacks. You could always dip the license plate, light covers if you really wanted to make them different.

 

It was directed to anyone that has done it. I picked up 2 cans of white dip to try on my bumper. I know it won't match the super white, but it should be ok. If not have a few cans of black to fall back on.

This is the Anthracite Gray Metallic Plasti-Dip over chrome rear bumper. I took off as much plastic as I could, the only pieces I could not get off were the two upper pieces under each tail light. One can of color and almost a full can of clear Glossifier.

 

That looks good. I also have a couple of cans of Anthracite. I was going to use it on the wheels. I also have two cans of black, white, and gunmetal. I just wanted options and the cans were cheap.

 

I derped my rear bumper this weekend. Came out pretty decent. I also did the front grill. I didn't like the way it looked at all. I'm just going to color match my front grill.

 

Thanks man. I was at the mall today and some guy in an Altima pulled in. He dipped his wheels Gunmetal. It's too bluish for me, reminds me of the primer every Chevelle in high school seemed to be painted.

 

I fixed the lifting that I had near my license plate. Now I just have to wait for it to fade and get dirty like the other dip and it will match.

 

did mine 18 months ago and still perfect. I put tire shine on it once in a while to renew the colour.

 

So far I have just dipped the badges I did not remove, getting ready to do my bumper.

Originally I had planned on tapping off the plastic trim and lights on my bumper, now I am considering simply shooting the whole thing.

Clean the entire bumper well, remove license plate and dip chrome, plastic trim and all, then taking razor knife and remove dip from license plate lenses.

Anyone tried this route? Any problems? Thoughts?
