I know it’s been done by many, but I can seem to find a thread for it. Has anyone painted/ plasti dipped their front bumper like this one? How does it hold up?

    Things that cost to much...
Take it from a guy who used to dip his whole car every winter when I lived in VA. If you’re doing an entire bumper, use a spray gun. It’s hard to apply a uniform finish with spray cans on an area that big. Also look into applying the gloss finish to fight against fading and invest in some Dipcoat. Dipyourcar.com has a lot of good info and supplies.

    I use Google Search engine..
Then just type tacomaworld.com followed by whatever I'm looking for.
Seems to work better than the tw search bar..

I agree with @famousoutlaw if you plan to spray whole bumper use a gun..
I spray my wife's civic every few years and use an hvlp.
But it seemed to me you wanted just the lower valence dipped. . If thats the case just use a can on that...
Spraycans have clear coat called glossifier to help with uv damage.
Hvlp spraying I buy topcoat. From dipyourcar.com for clearcoat.

Edit...her civic is now all black and color changing purple on hood roof and top of trunk:goingcrazy:
She chages colors every year or two..
One of the advantages of plastidip:thumbsup:

Plastidip holds up very well if sprayed on thick enough. Its vital to get plenty of coats... the biggest problem is when you spray it on too thin. It makes it harder to remove later and doesn't hold up to abrasions and scratches as well. I dipped my dirt bike wheels and believe it or not they lasted over a year before they needed a re spray and dirt bike wheels take some major abuse.

EDIT: I wrote more of a reply but then I realized you weren't talking about the grill shroud lol.

So do you think I will need a topcoat if I dip the lower valence?

You don't have to but glossifier will hold up longer than without..

A few mods here and there and counting....
You could just vinyl wrap it. I may have to do this because that looks clean.

The problem with Plasti-dip is it is temporary. The advantage to Plasti-dip is that it is temporary.

It peels off, with some effort and patience with your fingers, or when you wash your car, or such as that or when de-masking even Then it is a mess. Little peels can be repaired.

I use the gloss top coat for best results.

I sprayed my 03 Tacoma's black fenders with Plastidip and it was a pain to get off. Probably because I didn't apply enough layers as you mentioned. Good to know though.

If you spray several decent coats (at least 4 I'd say), when you do decide to peel it, it should come off sort of like a piece of ballon. Too thin and it will come off in small flakes.

I would paint it. I used plasti dip and it isn't the most durable...
