Better off vinyl wrapping them to prevent chips

Plenty of people with TRD OR's who want painted flairs, you could probably find someone to trade with

I think there is a dedicated thread for it too. I can't find it tho, on mobile, searching just pulled up individual threads.

    Edit
    Found it:

You can buy the unpaired flares from Toyota but it might be cheaper to trade it in for an off-road LOL

If they offered a Lunar Rock longbox 4 door offroad I would jump all over it but not available in Canada so trd sport premium it is. I don't want to swap them or wrap them. Anybody have any pics or just smart a$$ comments to offer lol.

    Just DO IT!

Lay down a few coats of rattlecan dip and see what you think. You'll be working with a super gloss surface so hit it with alcohol, a lint rag, and spray! I redid my flares on my Ranger without even masking and the overspray, which was minor along the edge, just peels off clean and cuts itself at the joint between flare and body. Lay a few coats down on one side and see how it looks. I had 3 coats on my TRD OR stock wheels and peeled one yesterday since I put new wheels on it. It peels off in nearly one whole piece when you have s gloss surface underneath.

I've plastidipped my fenders since 2017 and have done it twice so far. I just pulled it off and my fenders still look brand freakin new. No dents, dings or scratches. They did sightly yellow the white fenders but my high speed buffer and rubbing compound helped that. But yeah, plastidip is great stuff and protected my truck fenders on many many tight trails that most guys even with "off road" models would ever dare to go.

You can paint them man. Just do it like you painting anything else. 90% of the work is preparation. Painting is the easy part. Strip, sand, prime, paint. Basics for any paint job. If it was me, I'd use a more aggressive texture to match the OR flares and not plasti dip, possibly even more aggressive than them to begin with. Dont like it? Redo it until you get desired results.

Happy with the results if done correctly- don't drip gas on the PD when filling up . :/

Hey guys, can anyone tell m what you did to prep for plastidip on the flairs? I would use alcohol and lint free towel at least a few times but anything else? How’s the texture once done?

I use 90% Isopropyl Alcohol on a clean rag and go right to spraying.

I haven't done my Taco's but did my Ranger and some others. They have all come out really good and my Ranger has lasted 3 years as long as I stay back when pressure washing!

The finish really mimics whatever the original finish looked like. In my case, that matte stipple finish like a Taco's original flare.

I think the stuff is killer and way too easy to work with including overspray and clean up.

I dipped mine on my 2016 sport. Looked great for a long time. One day I spilled some gas on the one by where you fill the tank. It ruined that one but it's easy to redo. Take your time. Tape it off good and don't rush the spray. Many even coats and it will come out great looking.

I plastidip’d a shitload of car parts over the last 10 years and in my experience it’s super easy and super forgiving for the most part. I won’t repeat what all the other fellow plastidippers have said because they are all correct. The few things I will add is mud is hard to get off of plastidip (specifically clay based mud) so if you off road or even get on dirt roads, you may struggle to get the mud off completely. Almost leaves a slight stain, BUT you can spray over it if you can’t get the mud stain off. Separately but related, the sun will beat down the plastidip and it will get a faded black color over time. Again, respray a coat and it’ll look new again. I routinely sprayed my parts once a year or every 18 months to make them look good again. If you’re willing to do that, the upkeep is pretty simple on plastidip. Don’t be scared to try it, if you screw up, peel it off like it never happened. Have fun, you got this bud!
