Yes. Just like you would for paint.

    No. Definitely not.
Clean it well with alcohol or soap and water then dry.
Then one light coat of plastidip.. let dry 5-10min and start putting thicker coats on.
5-8 coats (if you want gloss then usw plastidip glossifier)
I use dipyourcar dipspray or quick wax to make it feel less like rubber more like car finish.

That's what is so great about plastidip..
Clean and dip..then peel if you ever want to go back to stock.
    If you prep/sand o_Oyou can't go back

I just washed the chrome real well, used some alcohol to strip any crap off of it and used my air compressor to get dust off. Then went to town with plastidip used two cans in light layers. It's lasted about 6 months with zero problems so far.

If you don't ever want chrome again, you can sand and clean to prep, its sticks better. If you want to get a rhino-liner type finish grab some sand and throw it on there between coats.

I did my grill 9 months ago, it lasted well all fall winter and spring. The last 2 months have taken their toll. Bugs are hard on it

I would at least make sure the area is clean. Obviously you don’t want to Plasti-dip a bug gut coated grille lol.

Other than that no prep needed.

Have you thought about going with vinyl instead? Easier to remove and stands up general wear better than plasti-dip. If you're not familiar with vinyl check videos on youtube.
