Plate Bumpers after impact with pics?

Those TJM look good. I thought about the aluminum one on my old truck but decided to stick with ARB.

I do know Ironman made bumpers for FJ Cruiser and real Land Cruisers, just don't know about Tacoma. They look like pretty much an ARB clone.

 

So far, my list of no bumpers made for 1st gens is (only going for what I can select on the co's website)

SOS makes one but only one has been made. It's a member on here tho

Bruteforce does as it's my front bumper, as for the others they do not make front bumpers for first gens

 

Perhaps they used to make them, but looking at those co's websites, you can't get one for a Gen1. Maybe you can swing some deal working through CS or friends working there, but they don't appear to be generally available.

 

Are you one of these peeps that wont pick up the phone and ask or are you just documenting the company sites that don't offer them?

 

I am just going by what the co's specifically advertise on their sites. It's a starting ground for my front & rear bumper research. I have no intention of calling every co. that makes aftermarket bumpers for Gen 1's to see if they have the products or not. There are enough co's that do advertise products for Gen 1's. If companies do make the Gen 1 parts, I think it would be in their best interest to advertise it. Otherwise, they will just get skipped over.

 

Well most companies barely make any money off of first gen stuff anymore so that's why they solely advertise for 2nd and 3rd gens. Relentless Fab stopped putting 1st gen bed racks up on their website because they barely got any orders for them anymore. They will still make them but you have to ask Eric

 

@Scenekyd has an SOS front on his first gen. not sure if Eddy still has the files for to make one though, I inquired.

I spoke with Eddy at SOS, he said he has the files, but no jig anymore to weld one up. potential for a "weld it yourself" first gen bumper , mebbe

 

I had my hopes up when a local shop turned me onto rpmfab.com- especially finding out they were 4 miles from me. A display piece they had for a Jeep looked like nice, high quality work. Sadly, a phone call ended with a no-go on 1st gen stuff

 

This is what I meant with the physics comment. It doesn't matter where the sensor is in the vehicle. It could be on the tailgate. Force=mass*acceleration, or in the case of an accident, deceleration (negative acceleration). With a steel bumper in place the distance the vehicle travels in the process of making impact is reduced (it's harder to bend metal than plastic), which increases the magnitude of the negative acceleration of the entire vehicle during said impact (acceleration is defined as change in velocity divided by change in distance). Since the mass of the vehicle doesn't appreciably change with or without a bumper the force exerted on the vehicle and occupants for a given impact speed, is necessarily larger, by a factor that's directly proportional to the decrease in deformation of the steel bumper compared to the plastic.

Compare dropping a bowling ball on a mattress to dropping the same ball from the same height onto hardwood. The mattress might deform 6-12 inches when the ball hits it, allowing the ball to come to a stop gradually. But the hardwood might only deform a tiny fraction of an inch, which is why the impact force will be MUCH greater, regardless of whether or not you measure it from the front, middle, or rear of the ball.

FabFours, front and rear. Gf backed up into my rear bumper .

Post #644 that was my truck!! Still deciding on what to get next....new 3rd gen or used 2nd gen. Getting an ARB bumper again thats for sure....
