Are there any issues related to switching to a heavier than stock bumper as far as the air bag is concerned? I don't know how much the factory bumper weighs, but would assume it's very little as compared to the steel bumpers many people here have. I'm planning on upgrading soon so just wondering if that is a concern.
    Thanks

It isn't the weight, it is the "crush" factor. I think ARB makes the only air bag compliant bumper. On first gen tacos, I believe it reuses the factory crush cans. Not sure about second gens.

I have a first gen and had a Shrockworks bumper on it. Just before Christmas, a kid turned in front of me and I ran into him. Totalled his car. Bent my bumper and it's mounts, pushed the radiator support back, and wrinkled the right front fender. It did not bend my frame nor did it set off my air bags. The bumper absorbed the majority of the collision. They fixed my truck and a new bumper is being built for it. Had the airbags went off, they probably would have totalled it due to its age, mileage, and the cost of repairing it.

I see that you have a 2012. From what I have gathered here and from manufacter's websites, the airbag sensors on the 2nd gens are inertia based and impact has nothing to do with their function; I.e. sudden stop = airbag deployment, hitting wildlife or tapping someone's bumper does not deploy the airbag. I have an Allpro on mine just for the wildlife as I drive 50 miles of 2 lane country roads to work each way.
If you look (with your hood open) down at the front bumper supports and the aluminum crash bar, you'll see the sensors mounted towards the frame behind the crash bar. With this in mind, they are mounted to what is basically a non-crumple zone, thus supporting the "inertia based" info.
Just my .02 forwhat it's worth.
Contact the manufacturer that you are considering prior to any purchase just to make sure.
