toyota wheels are known for that. me having a painting backround i say its bad prep work wherever they are painted at. my wifes rav4sport just got repainted last week for that problem. if its below the original warrantee (3 year 36,000) they will fix it. my wifes rav is an 07 and has like 45,000 miles so yota repainted them but she had to split the cost 50/50 with yota. it was over 600 total for all 4 but they are guaranteed now to not do it again.

Yep..Mine did the same thing at 45k - Bullshit rust protection by Toyota. They can stick the 50/50 where the sun don't shine. I only run the stockers in the Winter anyways, and when someone asks I tell them the major WEAK point - they rust like crazy

I'm planing to paint the stockers, so do you think i have a chance to make it last longer without bubbling if i do a decent prep work?

If you are still under warranty take it in. I bought my truck from carmax in December and had it shipped from Virginia. Wheels looked terrible, signed for the truck, went straight to toyota and a manager looked at them and replaced them the next week, all 4 wheels.

I have like 10 days left in mine .

They are doing the steering column TSB as well , and found I had seizing front brake calipers when they were in there , so that's happening as well :)

Picked a used 2006 TRD Sport 4x4 a couple weeks ago, love the truck, only issue is the wheels are a mess.

Waiting for my Pro Comp Series 52s to get here to replace these pieces of crap.

Quite common in Northern states and Canada for some reason. Maybe all the salt and ice. Its called galvanic rust and happens on alumium surfaces when the primer fails to protet the aluminum. Nobody knows exactly the cause but believe its caused by iron contaminents on the aluminum prior to being primed and sealed or a chemical pop from a reaction between the sealer, primer or paint.

My mom had a 2003 expedition, hatch bubbled twice. The body shop was good tho and re sprayed it. It is unfixable in the long run, the aluminum is likely to absorb moisture from the first time and rust again, what the body shop said. Hub caps were also bad. Every Expedition ive seen had bubbiling on either the rims, hatch or hood.

Solution, new rims. If you sandblasted and powder caoted it you would probably get 2-5 years before they bubble again.

She's got a 08 Navigator now, hoping it dosent happen again.

Had a problem on my wife's 2011 Sport. All four wheels were replaced. The were in much worse condition than the wheels on my four-year-old Dodge Ram. I'm ready to buy a new truck to replace the Dodge. One reason I'm not going with another Tacoma is because of the wheels. That and the fact that they still come with the "old" V-6. :D
