IMO, Colorado looks like a chick's truck, the front end doesn't even look like a truck. I think Canyon looks better but neither looks badass as the Tacoma.

Before I bought my OR, I went into a dealer to buy a diesel Colorado, and if they had them I would be on a different forum, alas the first build dates were until feb. Delivery march sometime. Despite all the trucks short comings in interior and exterior. The possibilities of the deisel motor out weighted all that, and would likely retain its value similar to the taco if not better (so long as the thai powerplant remained reliable)

It's potential pricetag and long wait steered me towards the OR. I dont regret the decision, yet. I might when the first tuned diesel colorados start showing up.

Resale, reliability and Tacoma is more rugged, look under the wheel wells of a Colorado things are not as beefy and instead of washable plastic wheel well liners the Colorado has some kinda cloth which would be hard to keep clean.Tacoma owners are smart if you can't see the obvious reasons to get a Tacoma then maybe your not that smart and should be driving a Colorado

Ohh yeah, I guess the same thing happened to the 3rd Gen Tacoma.

Toyota borrowed styling cues from 4 Runner and the Tundra. That's why the Tacoma has a Tundra's ass and the big grill. But I like it!

I actually considered a Colorado for the diesel option as well, but when it came down to it, the Colorado is just like any other American made truck. It's built to be driven on the road, carry stuff home from Home Depot, and load it up with whatever you need to haul or tow. If you look closely, there is very little that caters to any sort of off-road driving, even in mild stuff. No factory skid plate, a big ugly plastic air dam that hangs way too low. Street tires vs. all-terrains. Significantly smaller approach, departure, and breakover angles in comparison.

Also, they tout having their off-road package (can't remember what it's called) but when you look into it, it's all aesthetic add-ons. Like the sport bar they put in the bed. Sure you can attach lights to it, but how does it really help you. It does not speak of any major suspension upgrades, increased clearances, locking differential (as far as I know).
Take it for what it's worth, but Chevy is catering to their major market of people that buy a truck for looks and don't intend to ever use it in off-road situations. And I don't blame them. That is how they make money and are continually an award winning vehicle manufacturer. However, most guys on here or who own Tacomas in general bought them for a very specific reason.

If you take a look at Tacoma options. The packages speak for themselves as far as who Toyota is trying to sell to. Sure you have the base model, SR5 packages, Prerunner, and TRD Sport for more street, looks, and luxury focused buyers, but look at further offerings with the TRD OR and TRD Pro, not to mention an option for a 6 speed manual. Look at the specs on a TRD pro, and you realize that Toyota tapped into the aftermarket world (what we all do anyways) to deliver a very fit, refined, and extremely capable off road vehicle. Hell, Expedition Portal took the entire lineup of TRD Pro models up to Prudhoe Bay on an improv road trip, and not a single one balked at the idea. Toyota knows that even though only maybe 10% of owners really take their trucks through their paces off-road, that's still an extremely important 10% of market share that they have a stake in. It's very obvious in their product offerings and TRD research that the 10% is important to them.

Other things in favor of Tacoma vs. Colorado is aftermarket support. Yes, the Colorado is new, but I find it hard to believe that there will ever be as much aftermarket support for a less capable and more prone to breakdown vehicle compared to a vehicle that has proven its reliability and capability over many years.

Uhhhh, diesel or jet engine or amphibious or ability to fly... the craparado/cantyon duo will NEVER have resale value anywhere near the Tacoma.

Great point, I may have been lacking in my googling but can anyone confirm there is no locking differential on the Colorado, thats really whats keeping me in the sport category. And yes thank you for bringing up the aftermarket support, that is one thing I forgot about, even though I have only been looking for 2 months.

Time will tell. The diesel will turn into a very capable truck for most of the truck market and mitigate many peoples dislike of small trucks. Shit mileage and power.

I bought a truck to haul dirt bikes, mountain bikes and dogs to ride or camp. So a Colorado with a diesel motor would 99% of the time likely kick the living shit out of my Tacoma.

If I were to say get into trailing my Tacoma then yeah the obvious strengths would leap to the foreground
