I already own a Tacoma. But thanks for trying to be cool internet guy.

but I'll also be sure that I wear some insulated gloves and shoes to help dampen the shake weight Toyota have preinstalled in most tacomas

If you like the GM twins, by all means buy one. The diesel option looks appealing, how much extra for that? They don't have any where near as good a reliability record as mr Tacoma.

Didn't read through all the posts so forgive me if this is redundant. I had 301,000 miles on my '96 Tacoma when I sold it. Original drive train, still 4wheeling it. I didn't even think twice about buying a 5 year old '06 with 93,000 miles on it for $19,000. That will NEVER happen with a Chevy. A chevy would be on its last leg at 90,000+. Good luck with ur decision.

resale and reliability was the winner for me. The fact that I bought my 2015 4x4 DCSB OR for 31g and almost a year later the dealership I bought it from offering me 32g trade in for it is outstanding. I looked at the Colorado and canyon when I was in the market and even though it seemed more up to date than the Tacoma at the time, the Tacoma just felt better. It not only feels more like a truck but I feel it performs better.

+1 for the aftermarket options as well

A few reasons for you. Most of the other posts on here have given you plenty of good reasons to not buy a Canyon or a Craporado. I too had to look at that very same choice a few years back before I bought my first Tacoma and my first truck. The decision was very simple. The Taco is king in this segment. Yes it's over priced. Yes you don't seem to get as much for your money. It's as if you are paying extra to get into the "Tacoma club". But it is soooo worth it. The truck is just that damn good. Yes I have had things break and a few recalls to deal with but repairing the truck has not been a difficult task so far in any situation I have encountered. It's easy to work on and do your own maintenance to save you money. The aftermarket support for the Tacoma is almost unrivaled by any, other than a Honda Civic. The resale value is ridiculously good. The Colorado looks like a girl truck and the majority of what I see drive them are girls. I've never heard a woman say she thinks a dude looks good in a Colorado but I've heard plenty say they love the tacos. If you plan any serious off-roading then good luck getting there and back in a Colorado. Better bring along a friend with a much more capable truck to help you along. One of the coolest things about owning my Tacoma is th support I have found on this forum for the Tacoma. The people on here are outstanding. Good luck getting that anywhere else.

Showed my wife a '16 OR DCSB yesterday and her immediate reaction was, "wow that's ugly!" She was referring to the front of the truck. And I gotta say I agree 100%. I've been looking to replace my '07 and the Calorado is on the short list. I've got another year or two to make up my mind but Toyota needs to redesign the taco or I'm going to look somewhere else. Resale value isn't that big a factor for me and Chevy has stepped up their warranty so that could be the tipping point. I love my Tacoma but the whole brand loyalty thing is getting old for me.

I actually had the same decision to make myself. I'm sure I was biased as I had previously owned a Tacoma but I went and looked at the Colorado and a Canyon as well before making a decision. Honestly felt the Tacoma drove a little better and made less road noise when I was driving it.

As far as seeing real world #'s on the resale value - go to KBB.com and price a couple of used models of each - configure them the same and see which one retains its value better when comparing current value to original msrp.

Real Leather interior with power seats (has height adjustment)
Rear Step Bumper(all metal bumper, not plastic like Taco)
Bose sound system with 8" info center with DVR
Rear window defroster & heated mirrors

These are just a few things that come to mind, but except for off road the GM Twins beat the Tacoma in everything. The twins are rated higher in every review out there. The only place you won't hear that is on this board because most people on here are Fanboys and rightly so.

All the comments about Toyota's legendary quality and resale may be true, but the 3rd Gen is having a lot of problems so don't expect it to be like the 2nd Gen. The GM twins seem to be holding up well and only time will tell as to the long term reliability of both the Taco and the GM Twins.

You should buy what works best for you. If off roading is really important then, no contest get the Taco, but if not the Colorado is a much or comfortable and capable road truck.

Buy it. Sounds like you are looking for a station wagon with an open bed?

If you want some more serious off road capability, a well maintained 1st or 2nd gen Tacoma will save you a pile of $ while providing that capability in a more compact package.

When you go to rural areas of third world countries, there's a reason you see mostly 80's Toyotas and older Land Rovers. Luxury isn't one of the reasons though. :D

Looked at the Colorado. Really liked it when I saw pictures but when I saw one in person wasn't so much of a fan. Opposite was true for the 3rd Gen taco, hated it in pics but when I saw one in person I liked it. Ultimately return on investment, reliability, and the more truck like stance/ capabilities are what brought me to the Tacoma.

Either choice is good, however the resale value and reliability of the Tacoma is hard to beat. Chevrolet depreciates quickly. The Toyota is a good investment and everyone knows it. That's why the prices stay higher.

It has the g55 which is a locker but not selectable - I had it in my last silverado and believe it or not - worked Excellent and I was running 37's on that truck, a little brake modulation to make it kick in and would give a slight pop and lock right in. Comes on the Z71 package, along with extra skid plates, oil cooler, and various other items. Also of note, the aftermarket is catching on with the Canyons and Colorado's now - 5 1/2 lift now, body lifts, 7" lift coming out soon, and someone mentioned the front air dam, the Only version of the Tacoma that doesn't come with the massive air dam is the OR for "clearance" btw.

When the time comes I will drive the diesel canyon, and the regular canyon - can't stand the Colorado's looks. But I'm fairly set on if I go Mid-sized I'm getting a 6 speed so that puts me in the Taco 99.9%. The biggest competitor I have for buying is the absolutely CRAZY deals taht you get on the Rams.

Just consider this - remember I have 2 teenagers and a 13 month old... I can get 4 full doors, the ZF 8-speed tranny that comes in Rolls Royce's and Posrches fro years and has been test and ran hard since the turn of the centry... A improved Hemi that fixed the only issue they ever had which was the lifter issues and occasionally camshaft lope issue. 4x4 20+ mpg on the 3.92's while riding on 35's for a 1" lift. I can get all of that for 31k and the Rams have been holding thier value like crazy since 2009 when they made the massive changes.

I still see Rams selling for 20+K with over 100k miles on them with the Hemi in the packages I'm earching for. Just food for thought if your not set on a mid-size or smaller truck.

I'm not - and I have considered a used FX4 EcoBoost Ford as well.

Now with all that being said - the truth is this simple: In 10 years the only one I would still be driving would be the Tacoma as I like trail riding, going completely off the grid, and prefer the narrower body for when I'm off-road. If it was up to me solely I would buy a leftover 2015 loaded if I could find one in the Silver with a 6 speed manual for a deep discount and be happy. That's not happening - so I'll hopefully get a TRD Off-Road with the 6Speed and Double Cab probably in Silver but I'm really liking the Quicksand... All of the others, I would drive and probably love for all intensive purposes for 6-7 years and then get out of it - as it would have served its purpose and I would be ready for another new toy. With the Taco - it would just go to the next evolution of the build - SAS, doubler, flat bed, 1 ton axles 39's or 40's and hitting the super hard trails around the US. I would not do that with any others except possibly the Canyon, and even then only if the Diesel more than likely.

The bad thing is - wife wants me to get Full-size as it fits us better - thankfully my son is gone soon so I can probably get to stick to the two younger ladies - 13 and 13 months with no issues - all will come down to how well the car seat fits on the test drive I think.

I don't understand what everyone loves about the interior of the GM product. It really is terrible. Minimalist in every fascet, especially computationally. The head unit processor has so much lag, that the real time reverse calculation lags behind the steering wheel turn by .5 seconds. To me, it looks like someone installed an "off brand" tablet in the infotainment area, you know the kind that says "I didn't want to fork out the extra $200 for the iPad, so I'll buy a new tablet @ $299 each year." Then complains 6 months later that their tablet is slow.

Once people get enough time on the system and then spend time with other interiors, the poor performance will become a factor. It's why these brands win "initial quality" awards but suffer greatly after the first year or two. My suggestion, spend the same as you would on the GM product but actually get what you want/need, performance where it counts.

Oh and for all those saying resale stuff - I gather most of you are just going off what the market was 10 years ago - find a decent truck with under 75k miles or even 100k miles with the options you want for under 18k. It's not as easy as it once was - Chevys and Fords are holding value like CRAZY, Rams are still up there but slightly down to those two and I would say an EcoBoost ford is holding value better on used market than Tacomas and Definately better than Tundras. The resell is not the same, to put into perspective, i sold my last Silverado - 2007 model with 89k miles on it - 4.8 not even the 5.3 with some mods done - 8" of lift on 37" with some mods done to fenders to fit stock gears and the bed had been resprayed by previous owner for 28k in Feb 2014. That was a 7 year old truck, and it's well known modded trucks sell for less. It's not just my market here in Florida, it's all over - just do searches on Craigslist in different areas and even Ebay. The big massive recall year for Toyota and the frame issues of late have brought down the resell - it's still high don't get me wrong and for me looking at possibly used it's worth it to go new for a Taco, but just trying to get the info out there.

The fanboyism on this forum is a strong as the resale value on a Tacoma. It's pretty obscene.

Anything 4X4 holds it's value really well. I think the Tacoma has a slight edge, but if you've priced a used Chevy 4X4, they aren't cheap.... Even ones well over 100,000 on the clock pull in stupid money.

My S10 has over 250,000 miles and has been a great truck.... It's been in a couple of auto accidents and the front suspension needs an overhaul, but it's been a good truck. The seats have had enough butt time and I'm wanting a 4X4. I was very strongly considering the Colorado, but I can get a Toyota like what I want for a little bit cheaper, the resale is better, the reliability is less in question, and when I sat in the two, I found the Tacoma a little more comfortable. The inside also seemed a little tighter. Mind you, I'm not looking at a decked out truck. SR5 with the appearance package is probably what I'll get.

Agree Woodrow - if you look at my two post above lol.

I'm on here as a realist who Loves Yota's and have actually owned 7 all 4x4 and then 2 Lexus with a 1JZ-GTE swapped i nand another Lexus with a 2JZ-Ge Turbo'd and I still look at all brands.

I have to laugh, as I'm from Louisiana as well - think maybe we look at the world differently as I'm not sure about you but I had a very rough up-bringing and used trucks as trucks:) I'm from a bit north of Lake Charles - only spent 18 years there then joined military:)

Didn't Toyota just give you a new frame?
You won't get that treatment with a GM product....

You just joined, own a Chevy, and you don't expect to find "fanboys" on a Tacoma forum!

Devil Dog (Old School) - disagreeing with the popular opinion is not trolling, it's just having and speaking your own opinion last I checked. He's on here to get information and research before he buys. I have been forum member specifically Toyota based forum member from 1998 on - when I had an old 86 ext cab 4x4 with a 22re in it. I have been on Pirate as a registered member for 15+ years, been on forums that have come and gone - the purest group of forum people I have came across would be Taco owners, Mustang owners, and VW owners. I have been an owner of all of the above Multiple times and built multiple builds. If he is just venturing on this forum and it's is first interaction with Taco owners, I can say it has to be overwhelming. For the most part anything that is not "status quo" and goes against a Taco being the greatest value, greatest truck ever made with the greatest of everything or owning another brand is automatically "trolling". Quite a few of us are on here not only to read about the build options, best lifts, how they are holding up - what is happening with the upper ball joints and how much it sucks to put a 3" lift on and have to replace a damn stock upper a-arm to have it be considered safe. How unhappy people are with the auto tranny's, how they are handling the little fixes associated with first year trucks and just overall doing research on everything before we commit to a 32k+ purchase. If that's trolling - go ahead and count me as a troll - but I would say anyone that doesn't do that and just assumes everything that rolls off the assembly line is golden - I would call them sheeple. Oh and I really want to hear how the TAco does pulling maxium load with the 6 speed manual, still looking for that post actually and yet to find it - not on TTORA, or here, not on Tundra solutions etc. I know the Auto sucks and searches with anything near maximum load and going up a hill - so I want ot know how the manual does....

Can't believe this hasn't been brought up yet.

Google Chevy 3.6L carbon issues, and check out those intake valves.

Direct injection is the worst, and is going to be a huge problem. Toyota has covered this (along with Subaru) by going Atkinson.
