So I have a 2021 TRD off-road and I just replaced my stock 276/70r16 tires to the next size up. I was under the impression I wouldn't have any fitment issues but I was wrong. I'm experiencing rubbing on the upper wheel arches. Just curios if anyone knows why.

    Truck is stock height..no spacers.

You have stock wheels? I was under the impression you wouldn't have any rubbing either...
Those have the same width and diameter as the Sport's upsize 265/70/17, which often gets report of no rubbing...
I wonder if the offset is different on the Off-Road vs Sport wheels...?

Upper wheel arches? How is that even possible with 31” tires. Doesn’t make any sense to me.

....no. Dang, do you think is something as simple as that? I bought the truck brand new but never alligned it after taking it to the desert multiple times. I guess I never thought it needed it since its so "new"

Upper wheel wells indicates that the suspension is bottoming out. Might be time for new shocks- even if they’re stock height shocks you might notice less rubbing.

new shocks already? the truck only has 23k miles...I was already thinking the same thing I was just in denial. I'm not ready to drop that kind of money on my truck just yet lol but I guess if I need it I might as well go with a proper lift.

    I’m confused.

Do you wheel your truck hard? Even then, you’ve got bump stops to prevent that from happening.

FWIW my 33”s do not touch upper wheel well even at full stuff.

Lift is not an answer on Toyota IFS. Your wheel still travels through same range of motion as stock. By lifting you just change the starting point.

yeah i usually go pretty hard in the desert. I'm just confused because I've heard numerous people tell me the 265/75's wont be a issue at all.

You should have no issues at all, like I said my 33s don’t rub there at full stuff or under any driving conditions.

My question is. What is causing the suspension to bottom out without hitting the bump stops first. Especially stock.

265/75r16 Is a no problem tire size inside that wheel well.

Check and confirm that you are not missing bump stops.

If you are hitting the bumps or dunes at such a high rate of speed that causes your wheel to crash into the wheel well you may have the following issues.

Start with taking the tire off and inspecting area, take lots of photos. Zoomed out and zoomed in.

    Let’s start easiest to painful:
    • missing bump stop
    • Alignment. Any type of off-roading tends to fuck with the alignment ever so slightly. There are aftermarket parts that keep that to a minimum.
    • Failing/failed Shock absorber. (You should hear a farting or whooshing sound or nothing, on a speed bump, not a click.)
    • Failing/failed springs. Check for no cracks or obvious signs or coil bind. Ensure that the spring is seated in the correct spot.
    • Damaged spindle. Even a small tweak to this can cause the tire to rub in areas not normally seen. Check the angle of the spindle or any obvious bent areas.
    • Damaged UCA and LCA. Check for any obvious bent areas.
      UCA should be flat.
LCA should be flat, except for the engineered horn for the ball joint.

    Blueberry is onto something.
Everytime you get new tires you need to get it aligned. Along with Everytime you mess with the suspension you get it aligned. If you're on stock rims that are if I can remember right are 7" or 7.5" wide. Tires should be fine.

this, it seems to me also, you should be hitting the bumpstops.
