same thing happened to me because I took it on a road trip 1000+ miles away. Had to add 6 quarts of engine oil.. did the dealership do anything to make up for it?

Are you serious??? 6 quarts of oil is an oil change. You ran your engine dry????

PSA for everybody. It has become a lost habit to regularly check your vehicle.

    1. Pop the hood every time you get gas. Check the oil, antifreeze, windshield washer fluid. EVEN ON A NEW TRUCK! You will spot any issues before they become a problem. Do it on every car you own, and then you get into a habit. I do it on wife's car, when we go get gas together. I have not had a car using oil since the 1989 Mitsu Mirage (and then I changed the valve cover seal). I still do it. That's how I noticed Veracruz dripping oil on the alternator (common in Theta V-6, not noticeable on the dipstick) and had it replaced under the recall campaign.

    2. Pop the hood and check the engine compartment after ANY work on the vehicle is done, anywhere. One dealer removed the entire air intake assembly (filter and everything) to service the transmission on my Veracruz. Never put it back. I caught it the in the dealer's parking lot. Their response? "We saw an air intake by the wall, we did not know which vehicle it was for". Chrysler overfilled my engine oil by a full quart (I made them drain the excess), did not put the engine cover back on (twice). Dealer did not put the hose clamp back on the Chrysler air intake connecting it to the MAF sensor.

    3. Stick your phone under the truck and take the pic of the underside. That's how I knew that Toyota dealer did not put back all the bolts holding the oil filter door on the TRD crash plate (complimentary oil change). 30 min later, after arguing with service writer, tech admitted that he stripped one of the screws, and sent the truck out without it. Dealer ordered the full crash plate install kit (could not get just the screws) for me to get that missing screw. Another did not hook the Isuzu exhaust pipe back on the hanger. I saw it on the pic.

    4. Check your tires for screws. I pulled 2 out of my Taco's tire (Thornton Road Toyota near Atlanta) during the SAME visit. Bastards do not know how to keep their parking lot or work bays clean.

Great advice. Only thing I would do differently is maybe not do it at a gas station depending on your area. It is important to stay vigilant while filling up gas. I have seen too many videos of people getting robbed or car jacked at gas stations to be inspecting my car at one. Of course it all depends on the area, but crimes happen everywhere. Maybe do an inspection after you get home from getting gas.

Mine 2023 tacoma 19917 miles popped up today when cranked i panicked turned off cranked back up still their so I drove what I intended to do when got back home I put scan tool and ran diagnostic which came up the usual gateway comunication loss to ecu but apparently that's normal but had 3 new faults 34515 Camshaft Position Sensor 'A' Bank 2 CircuitShort to Battery or OpenConfirmed was what it is , the dash or truck doesn't tell you anything you have to get.the code and search it , the message on screen is basically telling.you the ecu is having problems.comunicating with a.sensor and either sensor it tells you is issue or wires or something the sensor is.their to sense amd it's readings aren't what the ecu is programed to know as normal so it.may be whatever the sensor is.sensing . I'm gonna check my wires In morning once I found where those sensors and specific one is located and I have a feeling its.gonna.be a.rat since I've been seeing one sometimes on my security camera travel underneath truck from a pile of bricks to other and sometimes out of site so sure been dry humping my warm intake right where one so happens to be similiar to photos of rat nest above someone posted , I kinda hope that is the problem cause anything else would.just not be good if timing slipped or that nature , I'm gonna have to make some electric shock traps if so . Neighbors puppies will just have to learn the hard way but not gonna let a rat ruin my 50k vehicle if that's the case . . If I can't figure out then off to the lying untrustworthy toyota shop where I'll raise he'll if they try to charge me a.single penny amd don't give.me a.rental for free , if it's sone crazy ahit like the tcm whoaaa wee you might see me.on the. World news for real .
