We recently bought a 2000 Tacoma base 2.4L 2wd and the gear indicator lights on the dashboard do not light up. All other dashlights appear to be working. We took apart the dash to get to the bulbs. There are six bulbs that appear to be intact. Now I'm wondering about this because none of these light up so what are the odds of it being a bulb out, or all six bulbs burned out? Then, I thought about an inline fuse but since all the other dash lights are working EXCEPT the gear indicator lights, I ruled that out. I am stumped. She is 17 and I'm worried about her driving it in the wrong gear.......thank you, Maureen

Hi and welcome to TW. I would rule out bad bulbs first. I would get a good bulb and try it. I'm assuming the truck is an automatic and the shifter is on the steering column?

Thank you! We are Tacoma and tundra people and thought this low mileage truck that we got for a great deal will be the perfect daily driver for our 17-year-old daughter. Would you happen to know what bulbs we need? The auto parts store, and Toyota were not certain.

I believe the size you need are 194 bulbs. I might say on your current bulbs.

We are going to take the bulbs to the parts store. My husband said that these are 1/3 of the size of 194 bulbs and they don't come out of the plastic shield. Thank you!

Thank you for your help, and I wanted to let you know that they do come out of the shield. I can read that it says Toshiba V-2. We looked at 194 and those were huge compared to these little bulbs. My eyes have glazed over, trying to find the right size on Amazon. Our daughter is so disappointed that she can’t drive her new truck safety first.

Not familiar with the 2WD's, but with all the other bulbs working, and looking at your pic of those (they don't appear burned out,) I would look at the switch or connector that activates when it's put in gear. For example in wife's RAV4 it's under the center console, check your manual for the location of the switch and respective connectors.
