Ok, so I installed a new radio last weekend (not my first install), Pioneer head unit if it matters. When I put the car back together, the controls to switch the location of the air blower and the button to use circulated air do not work. Everything else does. I tried putting in a different control unit and it still has the same problem. I can change the temp, fan speed, A/C works but that last switch is dead and the air is only blowing out the straight direction. I would like to get the defroster to work for the winter please. :)

So it is a 2012 V6 DC tacoma. Stock except for remote starter (previously installed).

Oh and I did install a new cabin air filter... could i have hit something there?

I will answer any questions and check anything out you can think of. I have a good volt/cont meter.

    Thank you for helping!

Well if you are certain that the connectors on the back of the control is OK. There are three servo motors for the Heat / AC system:

D1 - Air Inlet Damper ( Fresh or Recirc )
    D2 - Air Mix Damper ( Temperature Control )
D3 - Air Vent Mode Damper ( Air Out Location foot defrost or vent )

These are the two units that seem to be not working. D1 ( fresh / Recirc ) and D3 ( Air Outlet Damper ).

D2 ( temperature control ) from what you are saying is working.

Looking for a common between the two that are not working I see that they are both controlled by the AC Amplifier Unit.

Where the D2 ( Air Mix Damper ) that is working is directly controlled by the AC Control module ( with the knobs ).

First I would check the " AC Amplifier " it is high above the blower, back behind the glove compartment. I'm sure the glove box will need to be removed to see it. It is the common point for both D1 and D3.

I would check the connector for the D3 Servo and see if something is loose. If you look on the passenger side under the dash the Blower motor is straight ahead, look to the left at the center console area there should be two servo motors. The lower one is the D2 Servo Air Mix, look above that you should see D3 Air Vent Mode Servo. And last above those two and forward way under the dash is the D1 Air Inlet Servo.

Thank you so much Jimmyh, if it weren't for you I would not have found my problem. When I pushed the wires back in for the servomotor (behind the glove box) it didn't fully engage and was really loose, and half hanging out. I wouldn't have found this if I didn't know where to look because of your helpfulness. btw i have to remove this because that is where the wires for the remote start run across and they hang from this wire, removing this plug allows me to move the RS wires and replace the cabin air filter. Thanks again!
