a little info first to help, i currently own 2 trucks
    1999 taco regular cab, 2.7L, 5 spd, 4x4
    2001 dodge 2500, 5.9L, 6 spd, 4x4

I am in the market for a new tacoma, my budget unfortunately is nowhere near V6 TRD off road levels, so I'm looking at 2/3 different combinations

    2012 2.7L 5 speed 4x4, 75k miles, regular cab, $16,000 (before negotiations)
    then theres new...
    2015 2.7L 5 speed 4x4, access cab ($24,500~) OR auto for ($25,500~) roughly

is the 4 banger peppy enough for the access cab? the truck looks a lot heavier than my little '99.. id say it has more power now but havent been out to test drive one yet

oh and if i go new i can get about $5k off MSRP since i work for toyota, so new really looks like a good deal but i'm pretty fond of regular cabs....

so how many of you have an access cab 4x4 4 cylinder in either auto or MT? need some real world advice, this truck will tow nothing at all since i have the dodge, might even get a camper shell for it, it will be a daily driver to work

That 2015 will stick around for a while I'm guessing, or there will be others like it. I wouldn't be so sure about the 2012 reg-cab. Apparently those are a hot commodity now that RC's have been discontinued.

yea i guess its pretty foolish to pay just a few thousand less for a 2012 with no back seat and 75k miles..

From what I've seen at local dealerships around me, used RC's right now are ridiculously overpriced because of the reason I mentioned above.

If you plan on keeping whatever till it's at least 15, like your current rides, get what you want in terms of cab, etc. No reason to be unhappy for that long.

That said, I love my access cab. Yes, the RC might look a bit sportier and be a little shorter overall, but the more secure/weather tight cargo space works great for me.

    Too few to list.
If you can get a good deal on the 2015 AC, I'd say go for it. It's the last of it's kind. Toyota doesn't really give out incentives for Tacoma's because they sell either way so I assume dealers know they can move them regardless if they price them low or not. I have never seen a Tacoma new or used sit on a lot for a long time.

its really a tossup between buying a RC used for straight cash, or putting some down on a new AC.. hard decision

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
If you drive hilly terrain or are in a big hurry get the 6 otherwise 4 all the way. You have a choice? Buy a new one..... and forget the $1,500 extended warranty.

do you guys think 15k is a bad price for a 2012 RC 5 spd, 4x4, with 75k miles?

    Bad is relative.

We don't know your market. Things like this price out very differently in different parts of the country.

Actually that's a good price for the '12 IMO. I like it. Unless you really want to spend more $ I'd be grabbin' the SOB. Look for new front brake pads or figure you're close to needing them and think about new shocks.......then change the rear diff oil........ Good luck! [IMG]

This is so true. I just got a Toyota mailer about their end of year incentives. Everything BUT the Tacoma. Even Tundras are getting 0% finance and discounts. With the 2015 Tacomas soon to be gone and the 2016 around the corner Toyota isn't worried in the least.

OP - Do you plan to keep or sell the little 1999 Taco? Maybe you can take the cash out of that and put that toward the 2015?

I can't speak to resale on 4 bangers. But a 4x4 V6 Double Cab here in Montana is only $2k cheaper than new if it's 2 years old with 60k miles on it!!! Tacomas seem to keep their value fairly well up here at least.

That said $15k may not be that bad.

For fun I just went to Kelly Blue Book and plugged in a 2012 Tacoma RC 4x4 2.7L MT with 75k miles on it. It says dealer used price should be $15,342 here in Montana. So it's at least right where dealers are "suggested" to sell it at.

But if you can get $5k off MSRP as an employee? I'd probably lean new if you can afford it. Why not? New warranty. Brand new everything.

i usually change most fluids asap after buying anything used, ill keep in mind the shocks and brake pads thank you!

honestly i dont need 3 trucks in the least bit, but i'm probably keeping the 99 since its paid off, runs pretty well, and only costs about $35 a month on insurance.. might just cancel the insurance and make it an off-road truck like ive always wanted to

yea the double cab V6's hold their value very well, ive priced a few of those all the way up to 100k miles at 3-4 years old and still out of my budget..

if the 4 cyl in the new ones is as peppy as my 99, ill be perfectly fine driving it, although the 6 would be nice lol

i can get the base model, 4 cyl 5 speed access cab for $20,350~ out the door price. automatics i can get for about $20,800~, BUT even though dollar-for-dollar it definitely seems the way to go, im pretty fond of regular cabs and my budget in my head was originally $15k (but we all know that never works)

I'd buy the '12 RC. Save the money (I'm cheap) 5k+ is a ton of cash to save IMO. Clearly, someone knew how to drive it. Now it's your turn. Go for it.
