Thanks #Rocknbil, I took a closer look after seeing your feedback "level sensor which is a bigger hole facing downward" and it turns out it does have the sensor. I had been flipping back and forth over replacements as many that did not have that plug had issues with leaking around new gasket. You made me confirm, thank you, part ordered and on its way.

Few additional photos that may help someone.
Will provide more once new parts are in and installed.

OP, I just did this job. If you have a sensor here is what it will look like from under the passenger side bumper.

    upload_2024-7-2_17-35-31.jpg

If the circled yellow part is there then you need the reservoir with port for the sensor.

To drop the old reservoir you need to pull one body clip off the plastic fender liner. There’s a bolt behind there. Then three more obvious bolts securing reservoir to the fender. Unplug harness and the old reservoir will drop out. If it gets stuck don’t forget the clips holding the filler neck above the fender. No need to remove tire, but it will give you more room to work if you have the steering wheel cranked all the way to the right.

The pump can be pulled/twisted out by hand. Use a long screwdriver to push the sensor, if equipped, out from the inside. Either order new seals or be careful removing the old ones - they can be re-used if not damaged.

    Here is the end result:

Replaced the reservoir, pump and fluid level sensor for my 2002 with parts from RockAuto. Pretty easy to find what you need there.

Really appreciated your post, helped me get the old sensor out with long screwdriver / used handle end to nudge unit out.

Ok folks hoping this wraps up my input on this one, I know I share numerous photos but its how I work through it all and hope it helps others. Got my replacement unit in from Amazon (OE Replacement Washer Fluid Reservoir TOYOTA TACOMA PICKUP 2WD (Partslink TO1288183) $50)
Reinstalling was a snap, turned wheel out for access, no jack required. 4 bolts, one connector, one fluid line then pressed filler unit in from above. Used the screen from my original part. Tested. Unit 100%. Thank you all for the input, support, and 'oldguy128' for this original post. Cheers.

That's a helpful tip to know which reservoir one has, @w8tdstrgecube. Thanks for posting it.

Here's another image from a little farther back -- from my 2003 DC with ARB bullbar -- to help people orient themselves to what one needs to look for. Note the washer pump with the wiring and tubing at left-center, and the bottom of the low-fluid indicator at right-center, just beside the body-to-frame mountings.

Nice photo! I am running a 4x bumper so it’s easy to get to the reservoir, as it is for you, I imagine. For those with stock bumper, perhaps a bit more challenging. Your photo definitely helps add clarity.

For everyone's info, it turns out the rubber seal for the reservoir level sender does have a separate Toyota part number. It just doesn't seem to be listed for the Gen 1 Tacoma. But as Toyota uses a LOT of common (unseen) parts across its models, the seal is out there for other models and costs notalot.

    Grommet (pump) part number 85336-60300

My old seal was in good shape when I replaced my reservoir a few months ago, so this replacment is in stores for the next time I'm into it.
