    Hey Guys,

I'm new to TW and have been scouring this site for two days now trying to answer my own questions and have finally decided to reach out for help....sorry in advance if this is redundant and if these questions have been answered a million times...

I have a 2015 Black TRD sport to which i have added Bilstein 5100's set at 1.75 up front and a Toytec ICON 1.5 AAL in the back. Currently I have the stock 17" sport rims with BF Goodrich Rugged Terrain 265/70/17 tires.

I did these mods soon after getting the truck to give it a slightly more rugged look than stock, but it's just not cutting it for me now and I'd like to upgrade to slightly bigger lift/tire/rim to give the truck more of an aggresive look/bulldog stance.

I'm curious to get opinions or direction from those here who are much more experienced than me on the best way to do this. i have spent some time here and really like the look of 275/70 BF All terrain and SCS stealth 6 wheels. I believe that 275's can work on a 2" lift or less but with trimming and cutting which i'd rather not do. I'd rather add lift/height instead of cutting/trimming but am confused if i can do this with springs and a bigger AAL or blocks etc etc... Id like to maintain/improve ride quality which is great with my current setup.. I'm totally open to your ideas whatever they might be.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Without knowing your build use goals, I'd recommend staying away from anything bigger than 265s. Pretty much everything goes down hill after that, 275s will increase weight 20% or more. Horrible for everything and little clearance gain. 265/75/R16 or 265/70/R17 is as large as I wanted for a daily driver. Check out the pics in my Baja thread, which has similar 1.75" up front with 1.5" rear:

I believe in lifting as little as possible to accomplish what is necessary, so if you are looking for more show or something more extreme, this may not be the route for you.

This is great. thank you. Tons of information to absorb!! your truck is sweet btw- I really like it and reading through your build post has got me thinking a bit differently about my truck. It is my daily driver-- and i do drive a LOT. Mix of highway of course, a lot of dirt roads which in springtime can be Very muddy, some light offroading, and some pretty severe winter conditions in northern VT. So a build closer to your truck seems like a wiser decision for me and I think maybe i can achieve the look I desire without lifting my truck higher.

I like your TRD wheels though they are very pricey. I think the bronze color would look good on my black truck with the BF AT's. Can you shed any light on the comparison of running 17" rims tires vs 16"? Also, 265/75/17(16) vs 265/70/17(16) ? I suppose ideally i could keep my truck where its at up front at 1.75 with the 1.5 AAL in rear and just add upgraded wheels and tires. id like to get the best looking/most aggressive looking wheel tire combo that will perform well on and offeroad and fit with my modest lift- proper offset/backspacing without trimming or cutting and am fine with removing mudflats if need be.

I purchased my wheels off craigslist for much cheaper than new. For using your truck off road more tire sidewall is better, so technically 16" is slightly better, although 1/2" in sidewall difference is really negligible, so most consider them about equal.

I chose my wheel sized based on the tire I wanted to run. When choosing an aggressive tire, many come in E-load which is a 1 ton truck tire. These tires are built to carry loads our trucks are no-where near capable of and as a result these tires are very heavy and have stiff side walls resulting in worse mpgs, loss of power (from turning the heavy tires), and harsher ride. C-load tires are the appropriate load rating for our trucks, however not very many aggressive tires come in C-load for 265/75/R16 vs 265/70R17. Basically the KO2s were my preferred for 17s and Duratracs for 16s. Running these 2 sizes also requires no trimming.

Here is a write up I did on light weight wheel/tire options:

For a lesser expensive 17" wheel, these weigh 25lbs and come in black or gun metal:

and those wheels are available at a really good price here:

You can keep flaps without rubbing by running a lower profile flexible flap like these:

I just noticed this was your first post. Welcome to TW! Beware this site is hazardous to your bank account.
