Ok so I'm thinking about buying an 87 4Runner. This one is supposedly restored. Brand new paint, new engine / tranny. New windshield. The whole deal. Pricey.

I took pictures of the underside. It kinda looks like a leak on the engine or transmission. I'm not really an expert mechanic but this can't be good. Is this an engine or transmission leak? Or is this even a leak at all. Is it possible the drain plug just needs to be replaced?
Call me paranoid, but is this okay to buy? Everything else seems fine.
Help ASAP would be greatly appreciated.

Get an independent mechanic to do a pre purchase mechanical inspection.

That vehicle is certainly not restored. Refreshed, maybe. New engine? Or another engine from a junk yard?

What's hiding under the new paint? Got any pre-paint pictures to see what the issues were? Done any testing to see how much bondo may be hiding under there?

I'm not saying don't buy it. I'm suggesting you let a professional who can touch the vehicle help you decide.

    Best of luck!

Yeah brand new engine. I was wondering the same thing with the paint.
I'll see if the guy will agree if I show it to a mechanic. Thanks for the quick response.
