PLEASE HELP!! Reverse lights stopped working

Hi everyone,

Long story-short I was trying to figure out which wire to tap into for a 3rd brake light (bar) for reverse and when I connected my DMM the reverse lights stopped working. I checked all the fuses under the dash and hood and none are blown. I even swapped the relays and they all work. I replaced the bulbs as well.

Anyone have any thoughts on what else to check?

Toyota’s have very sensitive electronics, I would never advise taping a wire.

Check the fuses again, sometimes they pop and it’s hard to tell where.

Also, maybe whatever you added increased the draw so the computer cut power thinking maybe there was a short.

 

I triple checked all fuses and relays. The reverse lights stopped working before I even tapped the wire. I put the DMM probe in the connector to see which side is positive and that’s what shorted something out.
