please help with my gear questions

    If I lower my rear gear do I have to change my front to match?? A master toyota tech said it would be fine as long as I don't drive hwy speeds

    Wait really? Is it 4x4? If it is then yes they need to match. If not then there are no front gears.

    If you have a 4x4 you MUST, MUST, MUST regear the front and rear the same.

    If you don't you can NEVER, EVER, EVER put it in 4WD mode. Period.

    If the front and rear gears are not the exact same ratio you will destroy your drive train.

    If you are fishing for a way to do just the rear you can pull the front driveline. It'll no longer be 4x4 but you'll have your 4.11 g/r.

    yes... unless you are are a custom built specific race application (rally car) you want your front and rear axle ratios to match.... there is like a 0.1% time where a 4x4 / 4wd system has a difference in gear ratio and thats to spin the front tires faster than the rear for a different handling characteristic off road... but, in a tacoma... 100% of the time YOU ABSOLUTELY WANT TO MATCH THE REAR TO THE FRONT! Doesnt surprise me that a "master toyota tech" said shit like that.
