This is for my daughter's Nissan Juke at 48K miles.
A while ago it started to stumble a bit when coming to a stop. Since is not my car, I took it to the dealer and they found "need to clean throttle valve, perform idle air volume learn and retest" for $243.00
Nissan has a 5yr/60K mile warranty and is the throttle valve part of the "train warranty" or not? It sounds like a ripoff but my daughter not thrilled about me working on her car.
Also she has an extended warranty on the car.
    Accept or reject?

    Thanks.

Read the fine print. But I assumed you already told the dealer you expect it to be covered.

I’d try and clean the throttle body and MAF sensor before you take it to the dealer. It’s very simple and cheap to do

Have the dealer explain and document what part of the warranty it does fall under, and why that the current warranty does not cover that. They may just decide it is covered, upon your challenge. You could also look for regional Nissan rep to contact, I had to do this with Acura many years ago.

    Good luck

And if that doesn't work then what would be my first question for them. Credit the $243 towards the next "fix". I'm always a little skeptical when they tell you cleaning something is the fix....not to say it won't work.

I called Nissan and the dealer and I was told is not covered by the warranty since is "maintenance" but the car stumbles and engine almost dies and recovers by itself in 1-2 seconds followed by track stability icon.
It sounds like a power train problem and not just maintenance...

If it's maintenance than it should be covered in the owners manual. Is it?

They need to show you what part of the standard 'maintenance' that is covered on. I am pretty sure throttle body cleaning is not part of standard maintenance. I would also contact Nissan and file a complaint.

Is there another dealership around you to take it too? Like diagnosing humans, sometimes it pays to have 2-3 opinions.

    At work now...:(
Called them and waiting for a call back. Sounds like a money getting for them. I could clean that SOB in no time but daughter wants documented till "warranty" expires...and me to pay if needed...:(

I mean, shes not wrong, you could accidentally void the warranty. But at the same time, tell you to pay for the fix after you offering to fix it yourself is a gray area. :anonymous:

A lot of Nissans have TSBs for ECM reprogramming for similar issues with engine lights, MAF problems, idle problems. Either way I would think that would be covered under powertrain or emissions warranty.

'cause I am a tacoMANIAC and ask for opinions from other people that may have dealt with this.
I avoid dealers like the plague but sometimes I need to be informed before being ripped off.
