That is amazing. How are they doing emotionally and mentally? Hopefully healing there as fast as they are physically.

I am not sure about Olivia, but from what I hear she is doing good. She had some serious injuries as well. Leg is broken up good, jaw broken a couple places, had to fuse a bunch of her vertebrae together. But not paralyzed.

Naomi is doing good. She is real happy when we come to see her. She talks great. She is very positive. She has some aggression and irritation (little more than a teenager would have) from her minor brain injury, but they said that kind of stuff will fade away in time.

Naomi is fully aware of what has happened to her now. (not remembers, but has been told). She is sad for what happened and for the others that got hurt and the little one that died. I am not sure she truly grasps the full scope of it, but she understands the events that happened. All she can remember is fragments of the birthday party and then waking up in the hospital.

She will have to wear her back brace for 2-4 months to heal her spine. She has to take injections daily for blood clots for up to 3-6 months. I guess they do injections because pills have too much of the thinner and they dont want that. So small injection twice a day to just keep slowly, slowly, dissolving the ones she has.

I wanted to throw her a big welcome home thing, but it will just be close family at first. She has some anxiety issues right now being around a bunch of people. We rolled her down to the cafeteria for the first time this last weekend and she did ok, but wanted to be in the far away corner from people. Didnt want to eat or anything. Then wanted to go back to her room. Was good to get her out though.

All great news OP! I had blood clots that went to my lungs (through my heart but thankfully not to my brain) and was on blood thinners for 6 months, and when I get on airplanes I have to do the injections still. Not sure if its the same ones but they bruised me up pretty good each time, just in case so you know its normal.

Over time I am sure she will grasp it, just give her time and be there for her.

Will keep them in my thoughts. Are they planning on starting any type of counseling?

Sorry I did not see your post PR. Yes, she will be doing counseling as well. She will continue rehab when she gets home. But all her follow up doc visits will have to take place in Portland. So my parents will have some driving back and forth to do. (about 2:45h each way).

They got her a new bed that will be delivered in the next day or so. The furniture place was very, very nice. Was a $900 mattress and they are giving it to them for cost. Around $300.

They have a meeting with the docs sometime today and they will most likely give them a date she can come home this week.

They let her stay with my parents this last weekend in the Ronald Mcdonald house. She really liked that. She got to go shopping in the mall as well in her wheel chair. Got to pick out a bunch of clothes and things. Made her very happy. Did not stay too long as the crowds started to get to her but she is doing better around them.

She had an episode yesterday... Started screaming her stomach hurt but xrays showed nothing wrong. Then started yelling at everyone and screaming at them to go away and she wants to go home, etc. :( After about 15 minutes or so she was back to normal and happy/loving again. Docs say that will be common for a little bit. The brain injury and just the whole experience of what happened.

But all in all she is doing amazing.

My wife asked her what kind of cake she wanted when she got home. She said a red velvet cake, or a cheese cake. I said how about a red velvet cheese cake just joking with her... She of course said Yup! That is what I want. Oh boy. haha. So we get to figure out how to make one. Found a recipe online where a layer of cheese cake is sandwiched between two layers of red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. Looks good. Hope we can make it! :) We see the Cheesecake Factory actually hase one just like it but SPENDY! Plus we would like to hand make one. Little more special. (hopefully just as tasty!) My daughter made her a little welcome home poster as well.

Good to hear that man. Tough times ahead for sure but the worst is behind her.
