Hey guys. I remember a member on here a while ago claiming their 05+ Tacoma caught on fire. And these reasoning was from the cig lighter. They found it on the floor.

Well, this past weekend my buddy and I had to ride up to Orlando, which is a 3.5 hour trip. He smokes occasionally and wanted to stay awake. I did not have a lighter in the truck so I told him to go ahead and use the cig lighter in the truck. I rarely let anyone smoke in my truck except for my dad and people I trust. I go to push it in... usual 10 secs for it to get hot, and then the damn thing ejected itself out and bounced off the shroud around the shifter, then landing on the floor. Luckily, it did not burn anything and I got it in time. I did not think anything of it and it was just a weird thing. I rarely ever smoke, but I just wanted to have one to stay awake. I pushed it in... and it does the same thing AGAIN. I tried it a couple more times and it did not completely come out but very close. So the rest of the night, I just left my hand there to catch it. I am not sure if this has something to do with the cig lighter port, or the actual cig lighter.

Just a heads up even if you don't smoke and leave the cig lighter in there and one day you accidentally push it in while trying to look for something in the pocket in front of the cup holders and come out to your truck burning down.

happened to me a week ago. it shot in my cup holder, which had a Kleenex in it and it caught fire. i burned my self by grabbing it and threw it on the floor to step on it. so it burned the carpet a little and almost caused a accident.

I don't smoke nor do I ever let anyone smoke in my vehicles. I should just get rid of the lighter.

I should get a second accessory plug cover and chuck the lighter element in my toolbox or file cabinet.

Its from plugging other things into the port than the accual lighter. It bends the tab in there and then either flies out or does not even stay in to heat up. Always use the ports bellow that are made for accessories and leave the cig lighter in the bottom of the center concil if you have kids. They accidentally kick them in and when they pop it grabs there attention and they start to play. You can immagine the rest.

Mine doesn't stay in when I push it. I have to hold it there till it gets hot but it takes a few pushes to get it to work.

    THAT SOUNDS LIKE A PLAN.
When i did smoke i used it a couple of times and found out that it did that every time. i would keep all my gas receipts in the cup holder and the dam thing would jump right in there turning all the heat print receipts black. no fire but some smoldering.
now the outlet is all loose and i have to hold it in when i pull anything out of it.
    (that is what se said)

    should just swap it out

heh funny story... my old truck was a 76 blazer, 4x4. I had taken the rubber boot off the 4x4 shifter to replace it.. i left it off for a few days before i could get a new boot, During that time i went to use the cig lighter..pushed it in, and out it popped, right thru the boot and out of the bottom of the truck... i sat there with my smoke hangin out of my mouth like "well f*ck. what are the odds?!"
