I may catch some slack for this thread. And to be truthful I wrestled with the idea of posting it all weekend. But if I do get some heat then that's OK. Because if just one person or family out there is considering buying a newer vehicle. Whether a Tacoma, 4 Runner or any other newer model for safety reasons to replace an older car or truck. Then this may give them something to think about. I will do it as tasteful as possible and will not go into specific details. I did ask and was given permission from the person involved and to also use the pictures.
    OK here goes.
One of my friends, his wife was driving home one evening last week on a 2 lane road. When an older model pick-up crossed the center lane (allegedly) hitting her head on. The collision was driver side offset making it most likely even worse. She was shaken up at first, but after gaining her composer she opened the passenger side door, got out and walked away basically unharmed. There was a small child in the other vehicle and thank God in a car seat and also unharmed. The driver of the truck I will not go into details but the outcome was not good.
Now my friends wife was driving a newer model SUV and I guess you would call a Premium SUV.
And some may say that the brand or model made all the difference. Whether it did or not is not important. And very easily the outcome for all parties could have been much worse. What's important is that most new or newer cars and trucks have airbags and 4 or 5 star crash ratings and probably would have performed similar.
Please anyone reading this post. Please take safety into consideration if your thinking of upgrading to a newer model vehicle whether Tacoma or other.

OK....I had planned on posting the picture of the pickup here. But I just can't do it.
Understand this person did not walk away and out of respect I cannot post the pic.
I will say you would be amazed how one vehicle "the one above" could sustain so little damage and the other sustain so much.

    So, to summarize, newer=safer?

Not to be a total dick, but a child (apparently a baby) lost a parent and you had any inclination to post a picture of the deceased parents vehicle to illustrate a point about vehicle safety?

    Shame on you.

    You're missing the point entirely.

The fact is that it's an SUV. It's going to take that hit. Had it been in a car the truck would've done a number on her that's for sure.
Your premise is newer=safer but it could be anything but that.

The driver of the SUV was largely unharmed.

He was planning to post a pic of the truck with the deceased driver.

Hence "had any inclination to post a pic of the vehicle.."

Glad his friend came out unscathed, but anybody who sees a vehicular death and decides to take pics for the purpose of making an internet post has a complete lack of respect and a distorted sense of rationale.

I agree to a point. But the SUV is still a uni-body like a car as most are.

Didn't have the balls (as he stated) and didn't have the intention are different.

    Not looking for agreements.

He was probably going to for illustration purposes, but for reasons you are outlining he didn't. I don't see the problem. Who mentioned death?
OP could chime in but the pic are probably just general pics people took of the scene like anyone would do for documentation purposes. And probabaly not even his pictures.

Right but it sits higher off the ground. I can say I drive both a Mercedes and Tacoma and I don't feel anymore safe sitting so low to the ground in a sedan just for the fact that it's newer with safety features. My Tacoma could take hits all day and I'd be safer.

I never said anyone died. I said they didn't walk away. Quit assuming.

I would say modern cars and trucks with multiple airbags and crash good ratings are safer than older cars and trucks without.
