I had a 3/1 level lift put in my 2016 Tacoma trd off-road Friday. when I pulled out I noticed a roaring and vibration in floorboard. figured tow was all out took it straight to get aligned and noise and vibration still there. took back to 4x4 place and they said 1 out of 10 tacomas it puts to much angle on half-shaft on driver side only due to a needle bearingIMG_20170204_112653288_HDR.jpg IMG_20170204_112701474_HDR.jpg IMG_20170203_163757637.jpg . the half shaft hardly has any pitch at all. it has the diff drop installed. Is my only choice to lower it down maybe an inch. like the stance but cant leave it if a problem. I was going to install 17" fn wheels and 285-70-17 ko2"s

Please any help or advise greatly appreciated

Carrier bearing spacer... doubt the diff drop does anything...

The tech is probably correct about the needle bearing. 3" is a lot for these trucks and going cheap with just spacers...now turning out to be NOT so cheap...

Do you think dropping it 1 inch would solve this issue????

Carrier bearing drop kit is only like a 1/2" drop.. I lifted my truck ~2" and started getting a bit of a rumble and a little grinding .. not all the time.... I put the Carrier Bearing drop spacers on from Bilstein Lifts and it fixed mine. It won't hurt and may help ... cheap enough. much cheaper than rebuilding 1/2 shafts.

Damn why do people spend so much on a truck then cheap on the lift and not understand that putting the driveline and suspension geometry out of whack will surely cause long term problems if not short term issues too.

It would certainly help the problem. 3" is definitely going to be hard on that diff. Couldn't say about complete elimination. FWIW, I have a 2" lift on my 2008 4x4 and I have no issues. I highly recommend just saving up and getting coilovers and shocks, you'll be glad you did

Yep, has always been with this gen and previous. Dosent matter if it was spacers or coilovers. I was lucky with my 11 and 15 not having issues, but plenty of others have. I think ECGS makes a bushing think someone posted it above.

Even expensive lifts change the angle/geometry and will always cause faster wear and tear/etc. But everyone is so set on having a lifted mall crawler these days.

The carrier bearing kit seems to help some guys, the diff drop is a waste for these trucks.

the OP said it was the FRONT drivers side half shaft, so why are people talking about a carrier bearing spacer? The diff drop probably IS what is causing the noise. You don't really need a diff drop for 3".
Maybe it the stock shocks screaming bloody murder for extended stretched too far...if shocks could scream.

I lifted my 11 and 15 and am somewhat mechanically inclined, wrench on my own. I just kinda get all soap box when I see people jump on the lift band wagon and then wonder why they have issues now or later down the road and for what? (Not saying that's you OP). Eh to each their own. They do look cooler lifted.

Not sure what the carrier bearing has to do with the half shafts..

hahaha yeah I hear you, I haven't lifted mine yet but, like you, I am also mechanically inclined and I plan on doing it myself. but I also spent 3 months on here researching everything I needed to know, issues I may encounter and how to fix each issue, so when the time comes, I'm ready haha

But has helped with driveline vibes characterized from dead stop to 20 mph and the feeling in the floorboard similar to what OP's mentioning. Though he also talks about half shafts and the need bearing being an issue as well, he could attack both or try each and see if that helps.
