Nice, not saying you shouldn't lift your truck, but people need to weigh the cost to benefit ratio before jumping in. Looking forward to your build.

I mentioned the carrier bearing shims cause it will fix the vibration and noise OP complained about. Yes it could be the axles... rebuild axles = $8 hundy ... Carrier shims = $15

Gonna go out on a limb here since I actually have this experience.. I went with the Carrier shims for $15 moving on to the next round and we have a winner.

Exactly, he should try and/or the ECGS bushing, I'm sure one will solve the fix, but the vibration sounds and willing to bet to be the carrier bearing, pretty common.

He said his mechanic said something about it being the half shaft possibly but he also described the classic symptoms for the carrier bearing (floorboard vibration).

i may not do a lot of hard core off roading right now, but i do find myself in certain scenarios where the extra ground clearance comes in handy. I'm new into the whole off roading scene, so as I'm meet fellow enthusiasts and learn about trails in my area the more i will find myself off the pavement. its also a fun project to work on haha

oh and it looks cool

Right... try the carrier shims 1st and see if that doesn't help! Because price difference.. probably will need the carrier shims anyway. Just sayin...

Agreed, sounds more like a carrier bearing issue based on what OP described. The installer/mechanic said it could be the halfshaft, willing to bet that was a guess not actual diagnosis. Either way, try the carrier bearing drop bracket/shims and/or the ECGS bushing.

Right. And because of that, I don't understand why so many hates a drop bracket lift which correct the CV and steering rod angles.

Agreed, they keep the geometry, I think the cutting into the crossmember and then the 6'' lift with deep dish 20'' wheels image associated with a lot of them is why the unfounded hate.

tech who installed said the ECGS needle bearing replacement would fix it. but I just wonder if it will be one thing after the other.
yes, I went with cheap lift cause I cant afford suspension lift. also this is a mall crawler. I just wanted the truck to have a little nicer stance. felt very small coming out of 07 tundra with icon lift. only 4x4 I do is on road when it snows. I think the ECGS Bearing will probably fix issue but thinking of removing it all now. at least I did not purchase wheels and tires just yet. I hated the rake in the front and really just wanted it leveled out. now 480.00 plus removal cost for nothing......sucks

Why you didn't just bought Bilstein 5100s then?
3" spacer lift sucks, especially in "already factory lifted" 3rd gen.

instead of paying someone to remove everything why not pay to get the ECGS Bushing installed?

Add new springs front and rear (AALs) for 2" lift... should be similar cost..better quality.

    Edit:
The op has an OR I thought that has the same shocks as the 5100s maybe more travel but he's mall crawling so no need for extra travel... just get new springs.

There's a mount where the bearing ties to the frame... shims go in between the frame mount and the bearing frame.. you get new longer bolts and shims. It's literally 15 minutes.. most of that time will be trying to find your tools.

See below in the pic (Tundra not Tacoma same thing tho different shape shim on the Tacoma)
In the pic you can see the new silver shim and new bolt. This changes the angle of the drive shaft.

As a side note... I think you can tell if its your front 1/2 shafts IF the noise goes away when you engage 4wd.. not positive on that but I think that's what I remember when I was researching my noise.

Edit: this mod also helps with the axle wrap issue some folks have.
