For anything longer than 30 minutes it uses too much battery on my Pixel 3. On a newer phone it might not be an issue.

I think where it shines is situations like @deusxanime mentioned where you are running errands or short trips around town, to work, etc. and don't want to plug and unplug your phone frequently.

I don't think the battery issue is unique to the AAWireless device, I think AA over wifi is just battery heavy. There are a lot of complaints of this on the Android Auto subreddit for all kinds of makes models of cars with native and aftermarket headunits that support AA over wifi.

I finally solved the rebooting issue. If you turn on "Force 2.4ghz" I have not gotten another reboot. I haven't noticed a difference in performance either.

Where is this setting located? I'm getting these reboots a few times on my drive into work (always the same location) and it's made me start to think of just buying a wireless AA head unit. So instead of going off and spending $1500 hoping to find an easier (and cheaper) solution.

It's an option in the Settings menu of the AAWireless App.

It was location based for me as well. There was a bridge on the freeway that I would pass under and it rebooted every time. I thought that was super odd and cant really explain it. Maybe I was switching from 5G to LTE right there, or losing cell signal. Emailing with the developers determined that setting would fix it for me.

I found AA to be very particular to cabling. I tried to relocate the plug into the glovebox. I found a cable that plugs into the back of the radio then goes to a standard USB plug. I tried 3-4 different USB males to panel mount adapters and none worked with AA, wired or wireless.

if you experience audio skipping while using Android Auto or Apple Carplay, disable some settings in the head unit. Automatic updates were lagging me out. Turn off everything you don't need and it will have enough power to never lag/skip. Our headunits are slightly underpowered for all the shit that is on by default.

How are you guys mounting this? I had it originally like the below picture the problem is that it kept falling off in the Winter (-20F temps) when I was using some 3m tape and then I replaced that with some velcro I had laying around and that fell off in the summer (95F+). So need something that holds up to cold and heat - I flippin hate this state.

I rerouted my media port to my center console. See post #34.

I love this state, but the temperature swings do cause interesting challenges for stuff like that. That being said this summer was relentless with the heat and I sure hope that won't be the norm going forward. Sorry I don't have any solution, I don't leave mine plugged in so don't have it permanent mounted, but I thought I'd sympathize with you!

Hey all ... need some help getting this thing working. Finally got it after ordering in April. I have 2021 with JBL Entune.
    Samsung Galaxy S10+

In AA auto app on phone
    Wireless Android Auto - ON
Developer options turned on: Add wireless projection to settings - ON
Show network quality - ON (in phone settings)

It looks as though it's connected via BT, because when I go into the AAWireless app, it goes right to the settings page. From there, I WAS able to update the firmware.

But it never connects to wifi. I can see it listed in my wifi choices on the phone, but it won't connect.

And everytime i try to do something on my phone, that damn Entune app pops up on top.... so i'm guessing the AAWireless device keeps trying to take over BT to connect to Wifi, and the app keeps coming up.

Any thoughts? Seems like you guys got it working so easy. I'm pouring through the help files, but nothing is working.

    thanks.

EDIT: guess i was too impatient. after another 10 min messing with it, it worked. no idea why :).

Just buy some of that heavy duty double sided tape from gorilla glue. The stuff is insanely sticky. Make sure do use an alcohol wipe before applying it

Is anybody noticed that maps occasionally disappears from the available Android apps on your head unit?

I have not noticed that specifically.. but in general android auto is just kinda buggy. Wired or using the AAwireless device sometimes it crashes, freezes, the map apps load but are blank, music skips, etc.

My wife's jeep does the same kinds of things and she uses Apple Carplay. :notsure:

I bought one from Carlinkik (Black Friday sale). On Amazon. I’m returning it. Stopped working already. I wanted to ditch the cord too, but the dongle just doesn’t work right.
