So the steelership just quoted $799 and change for plugs and coils.
Where does everyone get there parts? when is it necessary to change coils? My truck idles a slight rough and I have 136k on it. Not sure if they were changed before but I doubt it.
should I just start with plugs ? help is appreciated.

Start with plugs, they are easy to change. Pretty rare to have a coil go bad, and if it did I would think it would fail completely.

No need to change coils unless one is actually bad which is uncommon, if you have a 4.0L V6 plugs should be changed around every 30k. Use only OE Denso or NGK copper plugs in the V6, others sometimes cause issues.

The problem with letting the dealership do it is, if they find that the plug well seals are leaking.
(They are part of Valve Cover gasket)
The job goes from expensive to REALLY EXPENSIVE, quick.
If you do them, you can put the plugs in anyways (or don’t) and do the seals later when you get the parts.

    I’d do them myself.
Pull the coils first, if you see oil, put the coils back on.
    Then order valve cover gaskets.
Do the gaskets and plugs at the same time.

Have you asked them why they think coils are necessary? Is the check engine light on?

OP, when you pull the plugs how about posting a pic or two of their condition, and measured gap.

If you discover oil in the spark plug wells, it is not a reason to panic. It just means the valve cover gasket is seeping around the wells.

If the oil is NOT in contact with the coil boot on the plug, then you have some time before needing a new gasket. YOU could just pull the old plugs, let the small bit of oil drip into the cylinder, clean the plug well with a rag, install new plug. The minor amount of oil in the cylinder will burn off quickly and isnt enough to destroy the CAT.

Like others have stated. Plugs first, only need the plug type stated in the Owner's Manual. You have time, if you need a valve cover gasket.

RockAuto is a good source for parts. The site is easy to navigate.

Do the plugs yourself, simple except for one, driver side rear. Confirm the gaps are correct on the new ones 039-044. I like to get the hook perfectly centered also.

If you have 3 ngk and 3 denso, they’ve never been changed. The gap is gonna be, dang how’s it start and run like that?

Anti seize or not, torque wrench or not is subject to opinion. For me it’s anti seize yes, torque wrench no.

If you’re concerned about the coils, you can google how to check them with a multimeter. They’ll all probably be good.

Running rough, how long ago did you clean the maf sensor and throttle body? Instructions are in the stickies, along with how to change the plugs.

Don’t source spark plugs from Amazon. I did and got counterfeits.

Added a couple pictures. One showing fresh out of the box new and off center. Then after getting it centered and gapped.
