I get a po 328 code every 90 to 95 miles. It runs great ,smooth always changed oil ,filters, clean quality fuel. My question is when po328 goes off and check engine light comes on is it saying that actual sensor is bad or that engine knocked and sensor triggered . I do know that on occasion if it triggers and has second one pending , timing is retarded and it wont shift into 5th gear. However reset code and its great for another 90+ miles. So is sensor bad or is it triggering when code appears. As I said engine runs great, smooth ,awesome truck!!! I might add this its a 2005 and has 83000 miles. I have owned since new!!

Well no replys here is update, I have been running premium fuel and no code for over 350 miles now. I still don't understand how it could go off at 90 miles every time before whether it took me 3 days or 2 weeks to put 90 miles on it. So I guess sensor was on last legs I haven't changed it as its a full day plus lots of hassle to get too. Wires looked good.

The 90 miles does seem strange on the surface as the knock sensor code is supposed to be immediate triggered when detected.

WEll for update it still hasn't gone off anymore .It all started with bad fuel cap, Replaced it and all was ok for 90 miles, then I did fill with fuel and I overfilled it, as I paid cash and I had to really struggle to get last few dollars worth in. Now that I think about it I would tell everyone do not overfill tank, always check your fuel cap for proper sealing.Because even though these events don't have anything to do with knock sensor, unless it was coincidence. It has not gone off in over 3 weeks now. Plugs were changed at 80k air filter always replaced.and mass airflow and throttle body cleaned properly. It is a pain when something is intermitten. upon thinking back maybe by overfilling tank I somehow got fuel in canister and it was causing sensor to trip. What is really weird is I found that if fuel cap is not sealing it will throw a PO328 code ,that's a bit strange. Like I said this truck is amazing, only problem besides this in 13 yrs of owning it was one u joint was bad since new and always vibrated at 55mph.Dealer never found problem in 3+ trips when I bought it new,I replaced it and found about 1/2 bearings missing on one cup. The vibration it had at 55 since new disappeared. And it came without a cabin air filter installed. Other than these small problems Toyota is the best!!!

Well I spoke too quick on startup after not running for 3 days good old po 328 reared its head. it must have tripped twice as it retarded timing and wouldn't shift out of 4th into 5th. Didn't have time to wait for it to reset so I reset with code reader and its been fine for 6o miles with 3 different days of running and multiple starts????? I wish I new if its sensor or if sensor is triggered because of engine knocking!!!

It had to be a computer fault or sensor fault, as engine is smooth as butter. Still never misses a beat.now in winter it seems its not going off at all .Wonder if ac compressor could cause it on startup in hot weather. Anyway this is new one ,I have never seen a bad sensor fix itself , been 2 weeks and no problems. ?????
