Has anybody here built a pole barn? Or have any plans for one? Or know where to order some good plans.

Im looking to build a simple 2 car-ish size pole barn for a workshop/garage. Any input would be great. Thanks

My parents had one built or built one(I cant remember) about 10 or more years ago and my brother had one built too. I can take pics of it tomorrow. come to think of it, a friend of my dads built an extension off of it 2-3 years ago. Just PM tomorrow to remind me.

up here , they are banned. I would check local building codes. I made one anyway out of telephone poles. I took it down when I sold the property.

Banning certain types of structures is sometimes arbitrary, cities want to keep a certain look or they may have some legit concern.

Any building can be stable or instable , that's a result of the design and construction more than the type of building

I think it was something to do with local building codes. Also it's Massachusetts, everything is against the rules.

I have a 34'x70' with a 20' eve height...it is wonderful. They don't work well in some soils, and are often thought to be cheaply built. I got mine from a local pole barn supplier, with installation. The site work and concrete was more than the building kit and installating, and it was another 10k to get underground power to it.

Call your local zoning board, tell them you would like to build an outbuilding and ask them what the requirements are, and they will be GLAD to help:)

Please build to local codes, it will reduce your problems and make the property easier to sell.

I had one built about 8 years ago by pioneer pole buildings. 30x50 with 12 foot ceiling. was about 14000 then 3300 for concrete and about another 1100 for electrical work. I have a 10000 lb 2 post lift. 7 hp 150 gallon air compressor.
