I am impressed about how strong these trucks are in impact tests. I just saw a Taco, that was rear ended at a stop light and pushed into the car in front. The two other cars were totalled and undrivable but the Tacoma was easily drivable and I think it was driven away. I was shocked.

Frames vs unibody! Frame's probably jacked up though and will mean it's totaled. Unibody just has more crumple zones to them, much safer but much more likely to total the vehicle from a smaller impact.

His lawyer is claiming that the driver couldn't hear the police sirens over the rear end whine in the Tacoma

If he had taken the cops through the mall parking lot he may have been able to get away. Everyone knows thats where these trucks shine.

I just heard on a local news station (KFI640) that the Truck Driver admitted that he stopped the chase on-purpose. I was thinking he must have because there is no way he was going to be able to make that right turn, plus you can see that after the two vehicles collided the Truck actually pulls ahead a few feet to completely block the Taco in.

I hope like hell the truck driver is an independent own/op, because most companies don't look kindly upon going vigilante with capital assets.

Couple of years ago a Oxford County Maine deputy I knew was running radar on a long starch of straight rural road I heard the call when he had pulled it over to dispatch. He told dispatch "some one is going to jail"! Yep a Tacoma at 104 MPH!

Highly doubt the driver spent any time feathering the throttle at 55mph..

    Dumb lawyer.

I call shenanigans. That truck driver pulled up to the corner slowly, watching the chase and staying in line with the Tacoma the whole time. That was definitely intentional. Probably waited his whole career to hit another vehicle on purpose without getting in trouble.

Back in the day, the police used to get on the CB and ask truckers to block the road for pursuits. Wouldn't surprise me if they did that here and told the truck driver to keep silent about it to the press.

Nope, most likely repairable. I saw/sorta worked on a truck this weekend that had similar damage and was repaired... they welded in new parts to the front of the frame rails.
