Most of the Dash camera systems are NTSC which is a half megapixel at best plus, 30fps so.. if you fly by at a high speed... they are not going to catch the plate.. They can use the optical zoom but it's very unlikely they will catch it at a distance..

if he turns his lights on, those camera have a 30-90 pre event time so.. they will capture things far before they decide to record them. Spoken from someone who sells those "Dash cameras"... HD dash cameras are coming, but not here yet. Oh.. I almost forgot, the do have HIGH SPEED LPR cameras that can catch doing 130 going by. Very expensive, and not on every cop car out there.

actually.. Toll booths have had VHS systems that can catch your plate when doing 130mph through them for a while now.

SORRY FOR POSTING ON AN OLD THREAD, COULDN'T RESIST.

thats IF they have newer cameras of course

some of our older cars dash cams only show about 5 seconds before you actually start recording...and again...only about 5 seconds after you hit stop as well

Yeah some agencies are installing systems that can read the plates from cars coming toward them or that are behind them. Than automatically tell the officer if something bad comes up. kinda cool software, but is expensive.

They're even talking about putting little cameras on each LEO, bad idea in my opinion.

we have 4 cars equipped with this system

they have "cameras" mounted on the trunk lid that are aimed a specific direction and can read each plate as it goes by...and then runs that plate with the local tax database and NCIC and alerts the driver if expired/suspended/stolen plates go by

Most cops will just let it go. Unless they suspect you for something greater. If you run by them again that day they may decide to be harsh because you ran and lock you up. One of my friends is an annapolis city cop. He is usually cool with people unless they really piss him off... like that.

Those things are amazing!!!! In annapolis they have them on an unmarked car that is "pulled over" by a regular police cruiser. They run tags on all the cars going by (not missing one) and they pull the ones for suspended tags or crimes against them over and arrest them.
