I've been trying to drop my power steering temps as everything would get super hot even driving around town with a cooler. I thought my exhaust was cooking the box and transferring heat to the system. Well I was right. This hacked up front plate has dropped the system temps by 20*!
    IMG_20170703_165541675.jpg IMG_20170703_165804788.jpg

Toyota makes a heat sheild for the manifolds, my truck didn't come with one. I ordered it, but could not get it to fit.

    A license plate?? LOL

Well, if it works it works :D

Can you use header heat wraps??

my exhaust is on the other side of the engine since I have the 4cyl, so I guess I won't need to worry about the heat affecting my steering box.

Hell yeah! Was even able to reuse one of the mounting holes!

Thought about that but those rot out piped up here in our wet slop. Plus the 3.4 manifold is super tight to the block.

If I didn't have this big ass fwd swing box this wouldn't even be an issue.

I tell you...at times the best solutions come from simple ideas haha.

Good points about using the heat wraps. You would probably have to remove the headers in order to do it properly, and that might not be worth the hassle because of the environment you live anyway.

Just down grade to a toyota steering box like the rest of us :D

Yeah do not want to take that manifold off, 250k rusty hardware just waiting to snap off! I don't even think it would fit if I could get it off. The pipe hugs the block tight, it's actually a pretty good design.

I hate this stupid Ford box, but I'm stuck with it. I think it will be going to west Texas off-road this winter to be drilled and tapped for hydro assist.

Did a tire rotation as well since they were wearing weird up front. Hopefully I'll be on some new rubber before the end of summer, thinking either radial rockers or Toyo mts. Also trying to move out of this hell hole state and out west!

Moving to the southwest has been one of the best decisions I've ever made. Vehicles last a long longer there :D

Yeah we are looking at the PNW. I have to take a pre interview test for Boeing this week so fingers crossed on that. Too bad my company doesn't have any offices up there, it's a good place to work and I have a good boss, and it pays well, I just need to get out of Illinois. There's more to life than working...

I have 15s so I'm limited on my tire options. Going back and forth over PBRs and Toyo MTs. However I have a phone interview with Boeing next week for a safety job at one of their WA plants, so tires may be going on hold for a bit depending how this pans out.

I'm an occupational safety professional at an airline right now, however in a non aircraft servicing department, so I have transferrable skills to pretty much every industry.

Albuquerque is a neat City from what I remember driving through it as a kid.

Ordered some 37x14.50r15 Toyo mts last night. Not a fan of the width, but it is what it is. Anyone in the market for some cheap 37" tsls let me know, these will be going up for sale very soon!

Tires are mounted and are awesome! No weights and there no shimmy or vibes up to 70, super happy! I was going to do an install write up, but didn't. Can't wait to see how these are off-road. I was worried about the width, but they actually look real good.

It's amazing what round tires will do for drive-ability! I can't believe you drove that pile all the way out to SD on egg shaped TSL's...Harlan should be quite a bit more comfortable now.

    Because I'm not a sissy:luvya:.

Been driving it all week, lots of highway totally different truck. Drives and handles about as good as it did IFS. Not bad considering I used a tape measure a total of 3 times during the entire axle swap.

Installed steering stops today, prepping to put hydro assist on it over the winter.

Hydro assist is so nice. You'll love it. Makes getting through those tough spots easy when you can actually steer. I have a miller auto darkening helmet and my welds instantly improved lol. Makes a difference when you can actually see haha

Yeah I keep instinctively flipping it up to see lol. Only complaint is that it's closer to my face so it fogs up on me.

Excited for HA, not excited to mount, bleed and trouble shoot it.
