The way I see it, if you wanted gas mileage...don't get a truck. I worried about the mileage as well but in the end i like the looks and the ability of a lifted truck and larger tires. I don't run the highway often, but it is our trip vehicle now that we have a dog so it sucks that way, but you get use to it.

I went from 265/65/16's to 265/75/16's and lost 1-2 mpg's- the duratracs probably accounting for a little bit in there as well. My speedo is now spot on and I have a little more clearence and don't sweat the smaller boulders on trails. Truck doesn't look stock anymore either- next to a stock Tacoma it is noticeable.

My opinion (and I could be wrong here) is that my trail capability was vastly improved not by the size of my tires but more by the amount of traction I get from the Duratrac tread pattern. The Tacoma is a <MID>-sized truck- if you really want to rally your truck off-road then bigger tires are just the start of your money pit. Sliders, beefier skidplates, winch, etc. should be a part of that plan- or a cheeper($$) 1st gen that you can beat the hell out of without a monthly payment.

If an owner is just looking for an asthetic lift and a road queen then there is always the lifted Ford F-250 option (Bra-ham style with Rockstar energy drink stickers on the back). ;]

Did you need wheel spacers for the tall and skinnies?

I plan on running stock TRD or wheels you think I'll need them?

There's a set FS in the wheels marketplace. :spy:

Also I am in between all the tires on this thread. 285/70/16, perfect size IMO. No rubbing full flex.

285/70/16 is tiny , why not just stick with 265/75/16 then ?

This is America.....The bigger the better! Right now I'm getting the life out of a set of 265/75/R16's that came on the truck. It's been raised and I'm ready to do some trimming on plastic, etc, to clear 285's. That was the plan before I bought the truck and I'm sticking to the plan. Only question is, which brand of tire. Looking at DurTrac's, KO2's or MasterCraft MTZ (Made by Cooper...more aggressive mud tire than the other 2)

do whatever your comfortable with but I prefer the 285s. I had to do some minor trimming but you can't tell unless you looked inside the wheel well. Duratracs have been awesome for me so far.
