I got nothin. Lol. I noticed these things imediatly. I also bxxtched about it. Also I had didn't research the mpg s that well. At the time I was speaking with a few owners that were claiming better than advertised numbers. But in the end I didn't want to get the same old thing. I will probably go back to GM sooner or later. But I'll have fun With the taco first.

wow.. alot of people are mistaking trucks for luxury cars, if i wanted leather heated seats, heated mirrors, navigation, BOSE sound system, and a power sliding rear window i wouldnt have bought a truck.

My Tacoma is just over a year old , overall I'm very happy with the truck , however it was hard for me to get use to the soft brake pedal, it does not run the way it should on regular fuel , and the headrest feels like it's to far foward which bother my neck after awhile as I use my truck for work and spend much of my day behind the wheel , I had to have the fan motor replace after only 3 months , instead of me breaking in the truck , it seems to be breaking me in instead , it runs great and the back up camera is one of the reasons I bought the Tacoma , I was rear ended by a tractor trailer that totaled my 97 Dodge Dakota .

    I can tow 3500 pounds.

I can throw 1500 in the bed.

I can get 26 MPG on the highway.

Manual transmission, sorry, leave me a voicemail.

I can pull a Tahoe out of sugar sand.

I can move my own full-size plywood without a trailer.

She gets to highway speed way before the end of the ramp, even on uphills.

Plus she's dead shexay to boot.

And I don't really like....ya know, people all that much, so the single cab rides me and the wife just fine. On the occasion four people want a single ride, the wife has a sedan.

I honestly can't imagine driving anything else at this point. It is everything I want, nothing I don't. Enough power to work, not too much speed to get me in trouble.

The only downside is I can't f**k her. And if I could get that I'd have bigger issues with the wife!

Just bought a 2012 4WD Axxs cab 4.0. HATE the bucket seats. Tell me why even have buckets? Why not a bench with a fold down console? And I'd like a bench in the back also. Just seems that Toyota limited the versatility of the truck.

And of course those ridiculous hard plastic mudflaps. Already ordered some CRE flexible ones.

Still the rear drum brakes? C'mon, you get AC, AM/FM/CD standard and a host of other nice standard equipment, but can't put discs on the rear?

This is my third Toy truck, so I love the basic platform, reliability, and of course the resale value is awesome. But those bucket seats really chap my hide. My dog loves to ride beside me and she's too big to fit in the bucket, climbs all over the console. Just a ridiculous setup, IMO.

One more thing, Toyota has a heck of a lot better V6's they produce, so I'm not sure why they put their weakest one in the Taco.

Ok, had to complain to a wider audience than my family, maybe now I'll shut up about it. Carry on . . . .

I agree with you about the smaller 1st Gen Taco, I see other people have commented the same. The narrower 1st Gen can quite often slip through places off-roading that I fear this 2012 cannot.

Having driven four Toyata trucks over the past 32 years, I can say that the current one (2nd gen) is the overall best.

The '87 turbo 4 cyl I had was really good too and if it had been an extended cab I would have probably fixed it up instead of buying a 1st gen (which I only had for three years).

There are a few things about the truck I don't like, but none are deal breakers.

The cab is too low and it's hard to get into the truck without hitting my head.
Because the cab is too low, the rear-view mirror takes up the center of the windshield and blocks the view.
Ditto as to traffic lights -- I have to bend down to see them if I'm first in line.
The rear springs are weak but not so bad as to warrant much complaint, especially as I don't do construction anymore and don't need a truck as a heavy hauler. The truck hauls a fully-loaded utility trailer (wood, cement, etc.,) without complaint.
There is a bit of road noise that comes in from behind the rear seats on the highway, but not so annoying as to warrant soundproofing.

My brother just bought an AWD Audi with a turbo diesel. He says it gets 38 mpg in the city. That turbo diesel is really nice. I wish Toyota would put one in their trucks for the American market.

Blacked out emblems, Weathertech liners, LED interior, tag, and 3rd brake light, reverse light mod, rear TSB, rear diff. breather, added black factory running boards, OR tow hook, and rhino lined UWS low profile box.
I love everything but the leaf springs. Even the TSB's. They just suck. The truck has plenty of power to tow my 3000 lb. boat, but it is damn near bottomed out.

Thank you! I'm so sick of hearing "It doesn't have leather, it doesn't have navigation, etc" Then go buy a Jeep Grand Cherokee, its got all that shit and it breaks all the time.

If the truck you are wanting to buy doesn't have what you want, then don't buy the god damn truck! OR set aside money to put what you want in it. I hated the JBL sound system in my truck, so I replaced it. It's a pretty simple concept.

I love this truck despite the lack of options/creature comforts for it's price. It really should have heated mirrors by now. Not so much around here, but for you all in colder climates. Brakes are disappointing. Rear suspension should be stronger. Power seats would be nice, but no big deal. Needs a locking tailgate. I would hate to get my gate and bed extender to get swiped.
