The 08 Tacoma is my fourth truck and by far the best. It is approaching 170,000 miles and other than the rear differential being replaced 6 months into ownership, no issues since.
My one minor change to design would be to add a light that illuminates the bed.

I love my 09 PreRunner, but I really do wish it was 4x4. After coming on this site, there are so many cool things I want to do to it, but I feel stupid about some things because it's not 4x4

A slew of pricey stuff my wife hates me for.
After 30k I'm starting to think the fit and finish isn't as good as the early gen 1s. My dash rattles like it is possessed, and just this morning my blower started making a ruckus. The bushings on the steering rack are starting to bug me too. Oh well. I can't imagine how pissed I would be driving a heep!

So far so good with my 2012 sport . I like the size and the way it handles in the city . However my 2002 tundra was much easier to get in and out of , and was also more comfy . But overall I like this truck better with the full back seat , nav , backup cam. Easy too park .

I have a 2007 Ford F150 super crew, lariat Ed, a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara. Daughter has a 2007 Jeep Wrangler Sahara and I just bought my son a 2014 Taco DC for his birthday. I love his Tacoma so much I just ordered a 2014 Tacoma DC Limited because this is all my truck has been doing due to Gas mileage.

Been driving the Taco in all this snow and love it. It is much more nimble off road.

Oh, before someone comments... Yes I have somewhat of a modding addiction

Agreed. Only reason I will upgrade will be if for some reason I need big block pulling power but at my age I don't see that happening.

you must have a stripped down model?

even my 2005 prerunner sport ed with every option available still has a trade-in / insurance value of about 14,000, if its a 4-door black pre-runner sport or 4wd with off-road pack. i'll buy it for that price :)

FYI the retail on mine was $32,000 in 2005 I got it for $23,100.58, so they mark up the hell out of these things! i got it for that price because we buy alot of toyotas, or used to before they pissed me off, from northshore toyota and the same day we bought this one, a trd tundra and a convertable solara ( bought for my mom). the tacoma had not arrived yet it was still in shipping, i had ordered a 4-Runner but the more i thought about it the more i kinda wanted a tacoma, i knew the 4-runner i ordered would be an easy sell for them and they could make a good proffit (limited ed. completely blacked out outside/black interior) so i asked alex the sales manager to show me in the computer exactly what was being shipped, he showed me, i picked out this tacoma and i saw EXACT price they were going to pay, delivered, said i'll buy the tundra and the solara today also if you give me for that price :) after TTL and GAP total was $25,380.63 walking out the door.

am i happy with it, best $25K i ever spent on a vehicle! even running the old 300RX i paid $48k for back then that i had at that time at the speeds i run, the RX blew the motor first time i hit speeds at 120-130 somewhere in there on I-10, tacoma does it several times a week, well close doesnt wanna get above 115-120, but you get the idea... awsome off-road for being 2WD, takes a beating in every since of the word, all she asks is changing fluids, doing normal maintenance and she will do above normal job!

    cheers,
    disco

What model of access cab did you buy for 35k?? I'm surprised by this. I paid 25k OTD for my 2007 prerunner sr5; 6 years later (2013) I got 22k for it.

2wds are super cheap in comparison to the 4wd models. You could get a nearly new 2wd drive for like 10k at 2009 while a 4x4 was 16k+ for an 05 here. I still haven't found one cheaper than what I paid last year

Option 2 for me. Should not say hate the seats, but they nothing compared to quality of first gen.
what they need is the 57 way adjustable`s from my Z71

    More than I can afford
As a lifelong toyota owner who currently has 6 toyotas, it pains me to say this.

I am dissapointed with my newly purchased 2010.

    Where do I start.
    Steering is vague
Engine makes entirely too much noise for a truck with under 50,000 miles
Transmission is not very easy to drive smoothly (6 speed)
Transmission strength is not confidence inspiring (trans was replaced right before I got the truck).
Clutch pedal is wobbly and cheap feeling
Gas and brake are too far apart to heel/toe comfortably
Overly intrusive and annoying throttle by wire gas pedal (holds rpms between shifts, has lag on takeoff).
Ride quality sucks. I have lifted and lowered trucks, they are more comfortable.
Interior materials look/ feel cheap, scratch and scuff super easy and upolstery already shows signs of wear.
Lots of creaks/ rattles and wind noise
Bed makes loud popping noise going over bumps
    Bedsides rattle
    Tailgate is weak
    OEM stereo has awful reception.

And then there is stuff that is just plain dumb.
There is a power inverter in the truck. Awesome! Where is the outlet in the cab?
There are handy little storage compartments in the bed. Why are they not weathertight and/or lockable?

I could go on but I will spare you all.

I can find fewer issues on all my other trucks combined. Collectively they have almost 1,000,000 miles.
I would love to say i just got a dud. It is a used truck after all. But I have driven others similar to mine, all exibit some of the same problems.
As a toyota nut, I want to like this thing. I really really do.
But so far, it just isnt working for me.
If I could take it back or sell it and not lose my ass on it, I would.
