His has a prerunner I see, that explains a large part of the difference.

I inflate my tires to 44psi, pay close attention to traffic, what is called "Driving without brakes" or DWB. It's easier to understand what/when you are doing wrong if you think about what you did to need to brake hard, or at all.

I have synthetic all the way around, but can't really attribute much to that, I stopped using mobil 1 and use motorcraft 5w-20.

Lot's of coasting in neutral when it benefits.

I know mine flies to the E and then waits a while until it hits the light.

My 'reserve' amount is definitely not 2.5 gallons. I don't know who calibrated my truck but I have about 6 gallons left when that light comes on. The first time I filled up when that light was on I could only get about 14 1/2 gallons in there.

The gauge is nowhere near consistent. I have my UG readout estimated fuel used since fillup, it's darned accurate when I check it at fillup (within 0.2 gallons consistently), and I've seen 8 gal used at anywhere from 1/2 to 3/4 on the gauge. The only thing that really happens consistently is that at about 12 gal it reads 1/4 and at 13 gallons used the needle is pointing at E. 21 gallon tank?

okay, cool. I definitely like the psi, DWB and coasting.

So, silly question, what exactly does the PreRunner package have, and how is it effecting mileage? I thought the PreRunner automatically stated that we're 2x4, but just in case it doesn't, we are as well.

    edit: http://www.askmehelpdesk.com/cars-trucks/what-prerunner-tacoma-317262.html
LORD, WHY, WHY WOULD YOU MAKE A VEHICLE PACKAGE LIKE THIS??? My world just shattered...I am...a....4x4....POSER.

I didn't know.......I just thought they looked good.

My friend just said 'well, we could upgrade you to a 4x4 really easy' (not. the. point.)

So the prerunner is geared lower, 4.10 rear vs 3.31, so with the 245 vs 215 it's about 8% higher rpm and wider tires really put the hurt on mpg. Tires in general can have a large impact, I replaced my OEM Firestones with Michelin Hydro Edge that advertised low rolling resistancce and lost 3 mpg right there, with the same 215 size!!!!!

Then there is the extra 4 inches in height, which significantly increases the wind resistance. I can't find the numbers right off but the coefficient of friction is way higher, something like .5 vs .3, so anything above 55 mph starts to drag with that 4x4 wannabe.

You have debadged that thing so nobody knows right! ;)

fishin line, wd-40 & some gloves to not strangle the fingers. Wd-40 on a rag will also remove the leftover adhesive from the paint. Maybe a plastic window tint spreader thing to help get adhesive off.

With mine, there is a significant difference between summer miles per tank and winter. Summer is typical 410 to 420 miles before the low fuel light comes on. Winter gas blends (or temperature) reduces this to typical 380 to 390 miles per tank before the low fuel light comes on.

My truck is a 2007 DCSB 4X4 and is "leveled" (not lifted) with 265/70-17 Michelins, the rear spring TSB, and 5100 shocks on all four corners. I drive 80 miles total per day, 20 miles on a highway and the rest back roads. There is some use of my truck (to go help customers) once I get to work but the use and mileage various. I know were the go pedel is but I baby it unless I have to do otherwise. I also drive so as to minimize hard braking. I have 65K miles on my truck and I'm still using the original front and rear brakes although my front brakes are ready for replacement. When I feel the need for speed, I drive my "other car". I've used the ScanGuage to learn how to conserve fuel and still enjoy driving a great truck. My objective is to fill up only once per week. I have no trouble with this objective in the summer. In the winter, most often, I fall short.

My first full tank through my '07 V6, automatic, 385 miles. To work and back, driving very easy. Due to speed limits, speeds were mostly around 50 mph. It took 17.0 to fill it, 22.6 mpg. I'm pleased but I don't expect this every tank.

All second Gen. tacos have a 21.1 gallon tank... 80 liters if you're metric.

Nobody drives until they run out of gas ('miles per tank'), right? So, another measuring point makes more sense.

The figures below are +/- 0.5 gallon:

At the 1/4 tank line, there are 8 gallons in the tank (down 13 from full).
At the E light, there are 4 gallons in the tank (down 17 from full).
At the E LINE, there are 3 gallons in the tank (down 18 from full).

If you want to call it that, then yes, there is a 3 gallon 'reserve' between the gauge and the amount in the tank... at least in the lowest 1/4 area of the gauge.

FYI. At the 1/2 Tank line, there are 12 gallons in the tank (down 9 from full). At the 3/4 Tank line, there are 16 gallons in the tank (down 5 from full).

So, on the gauge between a topped tank and 3/4 Line is 5 gallons. 3/4 Line to 1/2 Line is 4 gallons. 1/2 Line to 1/4 Line is 4 gallons. 1/4 to Empty Line is 5 gallons.

5 + 4 + 4 + 5 = 18... + the 3 gallons between E Line and empty tank = 21 gallons. As you can figure, a true 1/4 of 21 gallons is 5.25 gallons. So, the first 1/4 tank on the gauge and the final 1/4 tank on the gauge are the closest to accurate... the other two being only 4 gallons each, drop quicker.

    Is that enough details? ;)

I have GOT to be doing something wrong.... 07 TRD OR auto, pretty much bone stock with K&N Air filter....I get like 16.

    Summer-330-350 a tank
    Winter- 300 a tank

I'll admit I drive with a pretty heavy foot, but it seems like everyone is getting at least 2-3 mpg better than me. Even people who also admit to a heavy foot.
