Mine actually ticks louder now that the supercharger is on it. I dont mind, its only at idle when and I have to struggle to hear it unless the hood is up. Then once I get on it all I hear is the exhaust until about 2500 then it transitions to the supercharger whine and really begins to scream at 4K until the revlimiter... And yes, I do use the redline quite liberally.

During a spark plug change, I performed the rubber washer mod to isolate/dampen the VSV on the passenger side intake manifold. It has greatly diminished the ticking noise. There is a thread somewhere here on how to do it.

My 2005 Tacoma ticked. Minimal. It was bearable.

Just got a 2008 Tacoma a couple weeks ago and man this sucker ticks much worse. Passengers have asked me whats wrong with my truck.

I tried synthetic oil, no change. It's pretty loud. Even in the cab with the windows up.

It sucks! Because it is so much louder than my last one, I kind of want to take in to have it checked out but it's $125 just to have them look at it. Then afterwards if they don't find anything they are going to want to do compression test, who knows what else. I could spend hundreds of dollars and nothing be wrong.

I'm going to post up a video in a little bit here to see how it compares to some of the others on here.

Yeah I don't think I will take it in. I just did a video but the gopro couldn't even pick up the ticking in the cab.

I had an aero turbine muffler on my last truck, I'll get it for this one too I'm sure that will help tune it out lol

^^ Yes 100% you nailed it. Folks all solid lifter engines "tick" it's called valve clearance. Aviation fuel won't even do a thing for it.

I think I might have figured out why the ticking in this truck is so bothersome in the cab.

There is a sticker on the window, "Perma Plate". After googling, it seems they offer a "soundguard" product which would quiet the interior. This truck does seem to be quieter in the cab compared to my older one (besides the ticking). Maybe it has the undercoating.

Mine ticks but I can only hear it with the windows down, radio off, and idling in place. I just assumed it was normal.

My 2014 DCSB, V6, auto ticks/rattle. You cannot hear it in the cab. I only notice it when I get out to check the mail. Runs great so I guess I am lucky.

My tick has been getting louder as of lately. Taking it to the stealership to see whats going on. It has always had a tick but now I can here it from the cab while driving with the widows up, radio on and over my load tires and exhaust.

Hey Guys, New to the forum here and wanted to share a little on this subject. For the poll, yes my new $33,000.00 truck has ticked since I drove it off the lot. Until now. I've been experimenting with my exhaust and so far I've removed both rear cats and everything back from there leaving in its place two flowmaster hushpower dbx series mufflers, one on each side directly behind the downstream O2 sensor. Its loud as hell and really not what I'm looking for but again, I'm just experimenting with things right now. However, I immediately noticed that my tick was gone, and its been gone for over three hundred miles now. I know obviously that the louder exhaust might drown out the tick but I'm using a broomstick straight to the driver forward valve cover section and its really gone. Regardless of that, my tick is loudest at idle warmed up, and my new exhaust is quietest at idle warmed up. I read on a racing forum that unequal exhaust paths can cause issues and the tacomas is definitely unequal with two extra feet of crossover that is a flattened piece of two inch piping ( I'm assuming they do that for ground clearance ). In essence that could mean there's more backpressure on the forward driver side exhaust valve which is where my tick originates. Any thoughts?

I have noticed lately the tick in my truck, I don't remember this when I first got it, but I do notice it most if I'm driving next to a fence.

My truck has 4100 miles on it. I was going to take it in but after reading this it sounds normal..

06 4.0L, 117k miles. No tick here. And trust me, it's not a hearing problem. In fact, I had my truck running for a good bit just this past weekend tinkering with it. I heard nothing.

Got my latest Tacoma in April. The first thing I noticed about it was the tick when I opened the hood. Had it checked by the stealership before purchase and then to my guy when I got it home. All is good.
