Dents in roof from poorly loaded canoe. Broken side mirror from blown transfer truck tire. Scuffed up front bumper from thinking I was still in a corolla. Graham cracker embedded upholstery from a crazy kid.
Took mine in yesterday. I visually inspected before hand and didn't notice any leaks. They found the same and re-torqued the bolts. Took about 4 hours, but Saturdays are always busy around here.

I showed them the leak, they re-torqued and said it was fine. Showed me a picture of another vehicle that was worse than mine yet got the same treatment. In my opinion a leak is a leak and should be remedied, if it continues to leak I will take it back. No new truck should be having a diff leak, I'm at 21000 miles.

It almost seems as if Toyota is trying to skirt the system and only provide rentals and replacements for those with an active dripping leak. I was told since it wasn't dripping or super wet it didn't qualify for being downed and a rental being given. The fact that I can see where its leaking should be proof enough but whatever. After 60000 miles I'll shit can the truck and get something else, I don't need a truck that is going to fall apart on me after the power train warranty has expired.

They could have at least ordered the parts and replaced it after they got those with the more serious leaks out of the way.

That is why I put up this poll, is to see what the dealers actually do. If some are just re-torquing leaks vs actually replacing the gasket and fasteners. You might want to call cooperate and explain that you have leaks and the dealer did not conform to the recall procedure.

That's what I was thinking, print the procedure and take it with you, show them the "if,then" procedure as dictated by Toyota. If it's in black and white, it would be hard to see them not abiding. If they decide not to, report the information to the dealership service manager, owner and corporate. Pretty sure Toyota would hit them with a big hammer if not following through based on the flack other recalls have generated in the past.

I think a "Haven't took it to the dealer" would also help in the poll

Wait I thought ALL 3rd gens were part of the recall. Is it the 8.75 rear or the 8.0 rear thats affected?

Most likely at the end of this, all trucks will have to be inspected. There are many trucks with leaking differentials that don't show up on the list. The initial list of VIN's in the recall is most likely based on trucks they have already had issues with.

I don't see any oil leaking. I have 1300 miles on it and I'll just wait until the 5k service to have it checked.

Yes apparently he did! He's got the line thru his nic... I think its a time out not the full on banhammer. Just when all his problems are getting resolved and he decides to take a time out.

Good idea for this thread OP. Sub'd for sure.

When this recall came out, I had a feeling that either Toyota, the dealerships or both would have an alternative definition for what constitutes a leak.

Seeping is a leak. Toyota better clearly define this to the dealerships, otherwise it's gonna be:

    It's not dripping

    Or

It's dripping but the size of the droplets don't qualify for the full fix.

According to my dad, who is 75 years old, this is a small minor recall that's an easy fix. Then I asked "what's a big (major) recall" and he indicated anything engine or transmission related.

I don't know what to think but I do know that however simple this fix might theoretically be, I could see how this could still be done half ass, either during the roll out or execution.

    I
I miss @smitty99 also , but what does a seeping rear end have to do with the howling ? (Smitty's prob is /was howling)I do not see any relation unless the rearend is already really low on lube from the seeping. Mine was 15% low on lube from the factory , I filled it at 2K but it still howls slightly .
