Poll , how many New 2016 or 17 Tacoma buyers still have them .

Discussion in '3rd Gen. Tacomas (2016-2023)' started by Taco16LB, May 26, 2019.

?

Who stiill has the new 2016 or 17 Tacoma they bought ?

  1. I had a few TSB's done and am in for the long haul .

  2. I had to many problems and dumped it for a different brand .

  3. I had to many problems and dumped it for a newer year of the 3rd Gen Tacoma .

  4. I still can not decide to sell it or keep it .

  5. I know I want to get rid of it but am waiting for something better .

  6. Mine has been fine and why would this even be a poll ?

  7. I change vehicles at the end of a lease , so when it is up it is gone .

Traded my '14 SR5 2wd and leased a' 17 Sport 4wd w/ tech package with the intent to buy at the end of lease. The 2wd didn't cut the mustard as I was stuck at home twice for snowstorms (coastal VA) and my job gigged me for it (essential personnel bs). If it wasn't for that I would still have that truck. The '17 is a leap forward in creature comforts thanks to the tech package and I see no reason to get rid of it anytime soon. Leased it because 40k is, to me at least, a lot of money and at the time I couldn't justify the extra $175 a month car note.

Only issue I had with the '17 is that by the first 500 miles I was ready to take it back and demand the' 14 back because of how anemic and inconsistent power delivery was and the shifting was all kinds of fucked up. However a good friend that had bought a '16 told me that after 1k miles all that would go away and it would drive like a new truck. True to his word between the 1,000 and 1,025 mile mark the trucks behavior completly changed and it was actually a joy to drive. Transmission was still a little quirky but a bit of the OVT sauce straightened everything out. 28k miles total w/ 7k miles on OVT and everything is lovely.

I have a 2017 and it’s been wonderful for what it is. A midsize truck, I’ve had zero issues with it and I have over size tires and trail armor. Transmission hasn’t been an issue.

However, the size is the issue. I only regret my purchase because for my needs it isn’t large enough as far as cabin space. So once my financial situation clears up, I will be on the hunt for a full size.

However if my family was only at 2 and was going to stay at 2 I would not get rid of it.

The trucks great for what it is.

Miss my 17 a little bit but love the leather in my 19, and dealer still recalibrated my TSS with the lift. The chicken little crowd who thinks it’s a problem are too much. Toyota acknowledges the vast majority of Tacoma owners modify their vehicle, they are just being careful, hell you can buy lifted ones from the dealer new recalibrated.

2016 here. Love it. Gonna keep for well over a decade. I bought it for a long term truck, mods keep going on it. Would have liked to have the electronic rear window but I can live with it, wasn’t an option till the 17’s came out. Sold my Harley to put a big down payment on it. Have less than two years to pay the truck off. After that getting another Harley for my daily driver. Truck will be for everything else besides work and gym runs.

True, but I know Sweers was quoted saying how much Tacoma owners spend on average to modify their trucks and it was a significant number.

I see more modded ones than stock ones here in AZ.

It's always going to be about 80-20 on questions like this. 80% has little or no issues and 20% have some issues. That ratio or similar holds true to just about anything.

    Work in progress...
I bought the BlueTaco with 15,000 miles on it so I guess it don't count. I would have bought a new one if I hadn't got such a great deal on this one.

My early 2016 has been great! Had the TSB's done and all is great at nearly 60K. Getting 21.5 mpg at interstate speeds with the new Bridgestone Dueler Revo 3's. Love it.

Haha!! This post is skewed!! There is hardly and difference between the 3rd gen Tacoma so far. So what’s so significant about the 16 or 17s. Plus if I didn’t have mine then I probably wouldn’t be lurking around here.
