Would the parking sensor be this issue for this? I know people turn them off when towing as the trailer will set them off.

I don’t see why you would, its a good safety system.

I do turn off the parking aid sensors though, as it just screams with a trailer attached in reverse

I turn off the rear parking sensors. I leave the other ones on.

I don't think I have a rear parking sensor on my 2018. PCS keeps malfunctioning. Tow under limit and use WDH.

I voted no, but I have my load over the trailers axles, so my bumper isn't draggin'

Dealer blaming me for PCS malfunction although it didn't malfunction for the first year of towing my trailer. I even towed it short distance without WDH with no problem. Thoughts?

Not sure about your PCS malfunction, could be the sag in the rear end is pointing the sensor too high.

I think the manual actually says to disable PCS when towing. The reason for this is, you do not want the system to automatically engage the brakes when you have a trailer. It's a potential recipe for loss of control, since you wouldn't actually be in full control of the vehicle/trailer at that point.

For that reason, I turn PCS off when towing a trailer.

Run down any changes- new grill, new suspension, additional weight in the trailer,,, something has changed.
The rear leaf springs seem to sag fairly easily, maybe it was on the edge, and now the sag pushed it over? Worn shocks can cause porpoising, that could be it too.

OP you might want a different dealer to look at it. I have a 6 lift and tow a travel trailer and have never had an issue with the PCS after the stupid recall for a piece of foam on top of it.

PCS should not lock brakes just slows to mitigate damage...The way I understand it.

Also, with WDH sag is less than an inch. Electric brakes anti-sway should keep trailer under control. That being said, it seems like a bad idea for Toyota to make it default yo PCS on every time you ignition on.

I appreciate your thoughts and I may have to make myself a sticker since recalibration costs a good bit of $$$...there was a recall on 2018 PCS radar sensor and I lean towards that since most people are saying they don't turn off. But $$$ make me a little biased I guess.

No Changes and I am very weight conscious when it comes to towing. Towed without a WDH when I first got camper (just short distances) without a problem...porpoised like crazy so I ordered WDH. Tows like a dream.

I love my Tacoma except for this problem. Thanks for the input. Everyone on here is very helpful.

So do you turn it off every time you get in the truck? Cuz mine comes back on every time I restart it. Sometimes it's handy, but on long trips, when a slowpoke gets ahead of you and then slows down further, when you change lanes it always downshifts to get back to speed as quickly as possible. That is annoying.

The manual says to. I guess probably to avoid slamming on brakes with a trailer behind you.

For safety...yes but doesnt seem like it should cause a malfunction that costs $100's of dollars to recalibrate each time you accidentally leave on, does it? 88% say they don't according to this poll.

No, it shouldn't really need calibration unless you had a MAJOR height change. I've never turned mine off during towing. It's a pain in the ass. You would have to do it again if you get gas or stop to piss.
