Soba noodles for me, need pepper and sesame oil spray to taste better though. Taste bland dry.

I'll find it and read it tomorrow.

I launched a FWD VW on drag radials making 100% more power than stock with 10k miles on it (on the street), broke a transmission mount that resulted in a lot of subsequent damage to other things.. 6 months of arbitration and BBB being involved, my $7k fix was completed by VW under warranty. I was liable for the tow (which was covered by insurance), VW liable for everything else.

If you lose two engines before you hit 60k in a Tacoma...You've gotta be trying. Like I said, i'll read it later... But even if you never replace a filter, you're not going to get dirt in your intake manifold.. Not if it's a Chinese filter or Toyota (is there a difference?)

    I couldn't wait so I searched around.

Sounds like, even if he had a Toyota filter, Toyota would have found something to blame for his negligence.. Like I said, you really gotta be trying.

My vote was Yes here. Though not for the performance, like I said. But I think it's clearly silly that people are worried that replacing their filters with K&N or aFe will void their warranty. Are they not worried that Wix filters will result in the same outcome?

With that said, the title of this thread should read something more like "With the .01% CHANCE that your warranty may be voided for NEGLEGENCE, would you use an aftermarket filter?"

You got the percentages wrong. It should be .0001%. The aftermarket filter just makes it easier.

The thread was deleted by mods. You cannot find it. Synopsis (again): Toyota claimed, from what was written, that dirt got past the aftermarket AFE filter into the engine, causing failure. They were denying engine warranty because the filter that was defective, and destroyed the engine, was not a Toyota filter, absolving then of responsibility (and rightfully so, applying anyone’s logic, if that is the truth of the failure). The challenge for our “hey look at me, I’m wheelin for the ‘gram” bro with his second blown engine, was the AFE filter warranty is specifically limited to just the cost of the filter (see page one), so AFE wasn’t offering warranty even when tagged on Instagram.

This poll was never about anything else than a discussion of the various limitations of the various warranties, and what people felt about that. It was never really about performance gains.

The thread, being a public space, was turned into something entertaining, aggravating, informative, and funny by the people here.

Hopefully this is the last time it needs explaining. I’m gonna go back to eating my TRD ramen now, while soaking my scrote in hot coffee like the OG thread challenged me to do.

The FTC notes that a consumer has the right to patronize independent retail stores and repair shops for parts and service without fear of voiding the new car warranty. The dealer/vehicle manufacturer has the right to deny a warranty repair but they must demonstrate that the aftermarket part caused the problem. The warranty remains in effect for all other covered parts.

If you are still worried about warranties and aftermarket parts. Contact SEMA for more information.

The right one must be AFE. Looks to be more high flow.

    Thank you.

So the Toyota service manager said “look here at the dirt inside your engine, on the wrong side of your aFe filter!!! Golly. Please let us know how you will be paying for these repairs. Thank you, come again”

They demonstrated the aftermarket part caused the problem.

MAF + sesame oil = potential danger. There was a guy in Possum Trot Texas who lost 3 engines in 1 week. Toyota denied his 3rd engine...saying they removed 6 gallons of the oil from his intake.

The technician felt the substance removed, was indeed, sesame oil. He asked the opinion of his associates and they agreed. One foward thinking fellow went to the break room to fetch a box of Ritz crackers and proceeded to dip a cracker in the bucket of offending oil. To the surprise of his coworkers he was quite delighted at the savory goodness.

Before you knew it most of the staff at the dealership had joined in for an unexpected, yet greatly appreciated break from their daily routine.

The warranty claim for his 3rd engine was, of course, denied. They felt bad for having to do this as the sesame dipped crackers were a smashing hit. But in the end....they had little choice.

The service manager was a bit befuddled when he realized that his techs had missed the over abundant oiliness just a couple of days before with the first engine replacement.

But in the end he forgave the techs as they reminded him that during the delicious sesame cracker festivities that Cathy from the parts department had stripped down to her Dallas Cowboys leather thong and proceeded to walk up and down the table.

The silver lining in all this was, despite the customer being out $19,000 + diagnostic and shop fees for a new engine....he did receive a amazing complimentary air freshener....ironically a sesame oil scented one.

Here's an actual photo of the dealership staff during the impromptu gathering. The photo bomber at the bottom of the picture is Cathy.....before her overt display of sexual prowess.

One of my cars has Zero dipsticks for oil. I hope it has an idiot light for oil pressure because it can take 3-4 minutes before it calculates if I have enough oil.:anonymous:

Thanks @Plain Jane Taco - this is one of the reasons I am here, learning from other people's mistakes is very useful.

Think how differently differently things would have been if that guy just put the "soba does not void your warranty" sticker on beforehand.

And thanks to @Stocklocker , another worthwhile thread that has potentially saved me big bucks...

Absolutely. Please feel free to partake in my vast knowledge of all things Tacoma anytime you need guidance.

Also....that aftermarket noodle filter did come with a "will not void your warranty sticker". But the customer failed to place it on the engine cover....and instead left it in the glove box. From Soba's warranty disclaimer: page 125, paragraph 8, subtext 12.6 clearly states that "Soba is relinquished of all responsibility if warranty decal is left in glove box".

Ya got read that fine print.

Ironically there is information on Wikimedia stating that Soba actually makes the TRD sesame oiled performance noodle filter for Toyota. Not sure if that would have made a difference had he had theTRD one or not. :notsure:
