Poll: Leveling kit on a PreRunner?

Discussion in '1st Gen. Tacomas (1995-2004)' started by nchiker1, Jun 23, 2020.

?

Should you install a leveling kit on a PreRunner?

  1. Heck yeah! It would look sweet, and there are other advantages too.

  2. No dude... She's not a 4x4. Let her be who she is, which is still a pretty sweet truck.

Had a friend suggest to me that I put a leveling kit on. No doubt it would look sweet!

But with my baby being a 2WD, I think I'd have this nagging feeling that I'm a phony. What do you guys think, does a leveling kit belong on a PreRunner?

Secondary question, are there any advantages to putting one on a 2WD truck other than aesthetics?

Leave your truck alone. It's cherry as it sits. There is no benefit if you're going to keep it bone stock.
    Just my opinion.

I will make some changes on it, but nothing big. Mostly (but not entirely) interior and cosmetic.

I see a ton of PreRunners with lifts and big tires. Be honest, most of us don't use our lift and big tires to their potential. It's mostly for looks anyway- plus it's your truck quit worrying about what other people think :)

Can’t say I really thought about it as concern over other people’s opinions. But I’m certainly curious if there’s some sort of standard, or advantages to a leveling kit I’m not aware of. Thanks for the thoughts!

    @nchiker1

There are no "leveling" kits parse, just spacer kits that are useless anyway.

I'd leave it as is but if you did want to raise it, I'd recommend some coilovers/shocks for not only the aesthetics (lift) but also the function (off road manners).

For some perspective, this is 2WD too...

2WD doesn't mean you're a poser, unless your name is @Kwikvette and you like spiders (sorry, inside joke)

I "leveling kit" is really just spacers for the front coilovers to raise the front so it sits more level. The problem with that is when you then go and put junk in the bed and weigh it down, the truck now looks like it's a dog scooting on the carpet.

In other words, the rear is supposed to be a little high so it's (more) level when you put stuff in the bed.

Depending on the sage of your truck, how many miles, etc... you might be due for some new springs. If that's the case, there aren't that many options for stock replacements, so people sometimes will lift it because there are some good quality (better than stock, imo) options that will give your truck a lift for the same, if not less that an OEM replacement spring.

^Yes do it! Who cares what others think. Mine is 2wd with a lift and AT’s but still benefits me when I do some light off-road driving to get to some camping and fishing spots and plus the truck handles so much better. If you like that look go for it. Nice truck btw!!

@nchiker1 Who said lifting your 2wd truck will be a "phony"? Most trophy trucks that run the Baja are 2wd. You have the E-locker and that works amazing. Before I LT'ed my 2wd Tacoma, I had a leveling kit and I loved it. It looks good and performed well. Do what YOU want and don't get caught up to the 2wd/4wd debate.

If I can make a suggested, I had both a 3" spacer and 3" coilover. I would buy a good 3" coilover (Fox or King) and a new Upper Control Arm (Total Chaos or Camburg). A Fox and King coilover are rebuildable and you will never need to buy them again.

I vote for no leveling kits on anything.

    The 4x4 parts?

Hubs already got posted and someone called dibs immediately.

My spindles aren't posted and already have multiple PMs for them.

Tire gate got a lot of traction too.
